"Tell me was in a success?" Sydney asked me the second I was back in the car. I smiled widely at her and nodded my head. She seemed to be just as excited as I was.
"Tell me about it" She stated pulling away from the building. I went on about how they were cool and welcoming. I left out the part where they were smoking and talking about beer. I felt bad lying, I never lied back home, but it was easier to lie here. But I didn't want Sydney to be upset or contact my mother.
"And there was this boy" I started.
"Oh a boy, well what's his name?"
"Julian, he was super nice"
"And cute" She added for me with a smile on her face, "see no need to sulk around."
"He invited me to hang out with him again, tonight" I said slowly, I remember I was waiting for Sydney to scowl, but instead she just nodded.
"Where are you guys planning on going"
"Oh it's not like a date or anything. A party" I replied as I messed with my fingers.
"Could I go?" I asked carefully watching Sydney's face.
"I don't see why not" I remember how shocked I was that she was ok with everything. But then it was hard for me to understand that she was the opposite of my mother.
We didn't talk much for the rest of the ride back to her house, but it was a nice silence. I listened to the music playing and watched Sydney's slender fingers tap along. It had been peaceful.
Col was off of work by the time we got back, laid across of the sofa drinking. I smiled at him, but he didn't return it. He ignored me and instead grabbed Sydney by her waist. Pulling her down to sit on his lap. I stood awkwardly as I watched him pepper kisses on her neck as she laughed.
I continued to watch, I couldn't tear my eyes away from the scene in front of me. Col stood up throwing Sydney over his shoulder as she giggled. I felt bitter about the whole thing, but the final blow came when he dropped the remote into my hands and told me to watch cartoons. Then he carried her away to their room.
I sat down on the sofa and tried to focus on the show Col had been watching. Some black and white western film. But it was hard to focus with all these new feelings.
It didn't take long for me to hear noise coming from the room down the hall. Giggling, shushing, and what I now know is moaning.
My hands felt hot and my head was confusing me. Before I knew it tears were running down my face and my nose was running. I used the sleeve of my shirt to run at my nose and eyes. Col just made me feel so confused. One night he's teasing me and then the next thing I know he's all over Sydney.
A little voice in the back of my head kept reminding me that he was hers. But I wasn't good at listening to it.
I don't know how much time had passed before Col and Sydney came out from the room. Col fell down onto the sofa, right next to me. Which cased me to move to the side closer to the handle. I pulled my legs closer to myself and ignored him. Sydney walked pass us and into the kitchen to fish something out of the fridge.
"Something wrong, Sherrie?" Col whispered before turning his body my way and reaching around me. I shook my head as he pulled me slightly on top of him.
My head was on his chest and his own head was leaning on top of mine. I cursed my stupid heart for giving in the second he gave me attention again. But when Sydney came but into view of the sofa he pushed me away so my leg was the only thing close to him.
"She's just a bit nervous for her big plans tonight" Sydney said as she hit my leg teasingly before sitting down on Col's other side.
"Big plans?" He asked moving his head to look over at his girlfriend.
"I'm going to a party" I remarked as I fiddled with my feet. I didn't want to watch him make love eyes at Sydney. It was making me sick.
"A boy asked her" Sydney added. I nodded in response.
I turned to look up to be met with Col's eyes starring down at me. I smiled at him before continuing for Sydney, "A cute boy." He continued to look me in the eyes with a smile displayed on his face. But it was fake and cold. I felt giddy. Was he jealous. If so, good, he deserved it.
"Do you know what you're going to wear Casanova?" Sydney asked as she snuggled up to Col. I watched him bit his lip before throwing his arm around her. Pulling her even closer until she was in the same position I had been only seconds before.
I was back to being the jealous one.
