1. Username and the title of your winning book
Battle for the Photon Core
2. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I started writing 7-8 years ago so I'd guess around then.
3. Where do you get your information or ideas for your book?
Most of my ideas came from my dreams and nightmares. I also drew inspiration from my favourite authors (Andy McDermott, Matthew Reilly, and Sarah J. Maas) and often reread their books when I struggle with ideas. For example, if I run out of traps, I'd go to Matthew Reilly's books as they have a large variety of extremely well written books. I also get ideas from historical periods (mostly Egypt), a variety of mythologies, space science, and a whole lot of conspiracy theories.
4. What was one of the most surprising things you learned whilst writing your book?
[spoiler warning]
I can't stick to a plan. At all. I mean, the storyline was supposed to be only one book. Then I killed my main character and it became a series. I have a few major plot points that I put into my stories (the item hunt, introduction of Colt, and Amneris' death, for example) but the rest I make up.
5. Do you have any suggestions to help others become better writers? If so, what are they?
Write for you!
It probably sounds stupid but when you write for yourself the story is almost always better. If you're writing something because it's trending or its what you were told to write or its what's popular, it won't come out as good because your heart isn't in it. Write what you want to write.
6. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Hmm. No, I don't hear from my readers much. Most of them are silent readers.
When my readers do comment it's usually with reactions to something that has happened or they're pointing out a grammatical error I've missed. I love reading their reactions, though. They always make me feel good.
7. What do you think makes a good story?
Entertainment.
If the plot isn't entertaining and I'm not hooked, then I won't read the story. If I don't like the characters or find them boring, then I won't read the story.
8. Do you have any writing goals, and if so, what are they?
I'd like to finish my series some day. I've been working on it from the beginning and I love it, so it would be great to one day finish it. Getting published isn't really on my priority list but that would be a cool thing to look into once I'm actually happy with my stories.
9. What helps or motivates you to write?
Getting ideas at horrid times and needing to write them down. I'm often on my computer at 2am because some idea has come to me and I need to write it down before I forget. I also have a few friends who I share scenes with, and they let me know what they think. For the most part, I just write because it's fun.
10. What is your writing schedule like?
What writing schedule? XD
I don't have one. I tried it once and couldn't stick to it. Now I just update as I write.
