I'm getting my books out of my locker when the students in the hallway suddenly part. I roll my eyes at this, it's unhealthy to have that much popularity. I can barely see through the student's heads but I know who it's likely to be, and my suspicions are correct.
My minimal view shows my that it's Kyle, the school bad boy with the perfect hair and the perfect smile, flanked on either side by Dustin, his twin brother that is just as good looking with slightly longer than usual hair and dreamy eyes, and Tyson, the one who inherited everything from his father, from his genetics, which are apparently dreamy, to his money.
These are only the descriptions given to me by my best and only friend, Tami. They are probably going to meet Chad, the last guy to make up the poplar group at Stokelum high.
As they are walking, they are hi-fiving the guys and winking at the girls, making them excitedly whisper to their friends. Some girls hope that they will be the one to change them, but we all know for a fact that those four boys are the players of our school. Some girls don't mind, they are fine to just go around.
I don't realise how quiet it is until i slam my locker closed, it draws almost everyone's attention, including the three boys walking down the pathway of people. The girls scrunch up their faces as they scrutinise my look.
All the way from my messy high pony tail and side fringe to my almost no make up face, down further looking at my All Time Low singlet matched with faded black jeans and ending at my black converse high-tops. They turn and whisper very subtly (hint the sarcasm) talking about my clothes and why I slammed my locker closed, among other things that really aren't their business. Most of the guys, however, do a double take, like they have never seen me before.
As I accidentally glance over at the three popular guys, Kyle winks at me causing me to roll my eyes and start towards the library where I'm meeting Tami, the only problem being that I have to walk towards him to get away from him. I see his face furrow in confusion, egotistical bastard, before smirking with determination in his eyes and a look that said that he would have me, at least until he didn't want me anymore.
Great, just what I needed, the egotistical jerk that lives next door trying to get me to fall for him before he breaks my heart and moves onto some other girl, well I wasn't going to give in. He quickly turned back to whatever conversation he was having before I made a sound.
One thing that you definitely don't want to do at this school is draw attention, unless you are pretty, rich or want guys to know your available, none of which I am or want to do.
I'll be the talk of gossip today, I can already hear it, "she just wants attention" "look at what she is wearing, did a blind person pick it out?" And one that made me want to rip the persons head off "she is probably trying to get someone to actually like her, I mean even her parents hated her and her sister enough to just ditch them". It took all my strength to just walk past the random girl.
Each comment was followed by giggles and hushed agreements as I walked past. I hadn't cried in years, not since my parents left, and I wasn't going to start now over some stupid comments.
This school was like a maze, which meant that hallways met up at places, and just Lucky enough for me, Kyle, Dustin, Tyson and Chad were walking out of the hallway that had the library attached to it.
"Hey love, come over here a sec" Kyle called, looking directly at me.
I sighed, walking over there, he will just bug me until I talk to him otherwise. Tami is going to be reallly mad at me, she hates it when I'm late. But she will probably forgive me when I tell her why. Hopefully...
Dustin, Tyson and Chad leaned against the wall casually while Kyle had his arm resting against it. I had to walk past the three boys before I got to Kyle and I could tell they were checking me out. I've never been checked out by a guy, never really wanted to be, so it was kind of weird.
"What's your name?" He said, looking me up and down, not subtly either. His British accent was clear, he moved to Australia a year ago but his accent still hadn't faded, neither had Dustin's.
"Lexi" I said in a bored tone, glancing towards the library door.
"I'm Kyle"
"I know"
"You don't seem very impressed, love"
"Maybe that's because I'm not" I shrugged
"Finally, someone" Chad commented with a small chuckle.
The other boys were just watching the conversation with interest.
"I haven't seen you around" Kyle said, choosing to ignore my other comment and Chad's input.
I sighed, "well we are neighbours, but I do tend to avoid talking to people whose heads are to big to fit through a door frame"
I could hear the other boys chuckling but I kept my eyes on Kyle, challenging him to say anything. I could see slight shock in his eyes, but his face stayed calm.
"Your words hurt, love, but as for the neighbour thing, I seriously had no idea, Dustin?"
I turned to Dustin, I did wonder whether either of them had noticed or if I was just some random neighbour that they didn't pay attention too. When they first moved in, I talked to Dustin a couple of times, I'd be surprised if he even remembers.
I only remember because Dustin saw me crying in my window seat, and because of the window leading to the guest bedroom of their house, he talked to me a bit and helped me. It's not like I watch them through my room window, that would be weird, but I'm aware of them in the next house.
"Yeah, we've talked a couple of times" he shot me a sympathetic look, but I was just shocked that he remembers.
"Why didn't you mention her?" He seemed legitametly hurt, which was strange. But then again, it could have subtle sarcasm.
"Because she didn't need you, she was going through some stuff, and your only form of comforting is sex"
Just as Kyle was about to object to that, I cut him off.
"Well it seems as though I'm not needed in this conversation anymore, so I'm just going to go"
I started to walk towards the library again before Kyle's voice stopped me again.
"Wait love, we're having a movie night or something on Friday, do you wanna join?" His voice was still carefree, but there was just something there that made it sincere.
I think this was a side to Kyle that I would have never imagined, especially since we just met. But that's just it, I think I did imagine it.
"Maybe, I'll think about it" I said over my shoulder, really just saying it to get away from the conversation than an actual interest in going.
Then I was free to finally walk into my air conditioned haven that was the library.
