Superheroes. Marvel, DC, Iron Man, Batman. Both very well known characters. Alessandra was always surrounded by comic books and cartoons. Her father loved them, he would have long conversations about who would win in a fight, who was the strongest. Alessandra loved her father, just the fact that he would show so much love for the fictional characters made her want to know more, she wanted to be able to share her own opinions, her own information. She loved Robin. She knew everything about him, from the first teen titans cartoon to Young Justice, she shoved as much information her little mind could take. Dick Grayson was her favorite. Then she had discovered there was not just one robin, there were five to be exact. To say she went crazy would be an understatement.

The bright little girl would recite all the information to her dad. Almost every car ride, every dinner, every lazy day the pair would be seen discussing the world of superheroes. But, much to the young girl's dismay, those discussions she came to love suddenly stopped. Mr. Carrillo no longer had 'time' for Alessandra. He was now remarried. The 13-year-old didn't mind the new additions at first, she was actually excited, she had a step-sister now. Celeste was only slightly older, their relationship rocky at first but quickly grew strong.

It wasn't until Alessandra permanently moved with her father did she realize how verbally, and at times, physically abusive her stepmother was. She hated it. The toxic household made those 'dreams' of hers more violent. Whenever she'd wake up screaming she could hear the woman's crude comments. She could no longer run to her father's arms and feel safe. Alessandra tried her best to keep her screams down, huddling herself deep within her blankets. From where she lay, you could hear her quiet sobs, her hushed voice begging to whoever was listening. Praying that she'd get a dreamless sleep.

Her prayers were never answered.

Screaming. That's all that ever happened in this household, people were always screaming. I fucking hate it. Loud noises never sat well with me. But I guess it doesn't matter, apparently to the woman screaming in front of me, my opinions don't matter.

"Are you even listening to me?!"

No, I wasn't.

"See!" throwing her hands up with an exaggerated sigh she pointed a fat finger at my chest, " You're such a stuck up brat! You think everything revolves around you! " taking a small step closer to me, causing me to tilt my head lower in order to meet her eyes. " You... are just a disrespectful little b-..."

I'm not even sure how I got in this situation. My mind wasn't really processing what my stepmother was saying, the only thing in my head was the possible events that would occur afterward. Waiting for the toxic words flying from her mouth to finish so I could leave and, hopefully, never come back.
