spiked - chapter thirteen

The stars twinkled in the night sky as [y/n]'s father drove him to his school.
The soccer player's leg wouldn't stop shaking, and his heart raced endlessly against his ribcage.
As [y/n] gazed off into the dark sky, his mind wandered to the year before, specifically to when he dated Ryouta.
The two had dated while [y/n] was in his last year of middle school and while Ryouta was a second year.
Although most would've ridiculed Ryouta for dating someone still in middle school, they understood how much the male cared for his partner, and they respected that.
The two were the ideal couple. Both were insanely attractive, and their personalities clicked so well.
However, not everyone is accepting of it.
Ryouta's mother was ashamed of her handsome son being such an open gay. She refused to believe that her perfect, academically and athletically, smart child would be something so sinful.
So she targeted her hatred to the only other person, [y/n].
She consistently verbally abused him whenever she could, calling him the devil for tainting her son. For taking away his ability to love a woman and have children with her, to start a family with her.
She sent him death threats via text messages, telling him that he'd end up like his mom if he didn't stop seeing her son.
It gradually became harder for [y/n] to endure it, even with the countless reassurance from his boyfriend that only knew about the tip of the iceberg.
The headstrong and vibrant male slowly became dull and tired. Although he tried his best to withstand it for Ryouta, it only drained him further.
Soon, people began to notice how the [h/c] haired male smiled less, how his eyes were red and swollen when he came to school, how his grades were slipping. They instantly became weary of Ryouta and created rumors about him.
As [y/n] was a popular male with a large fan base that supported his sexuality, his fans immediately started sending messages to the male they've only seen once or twice.
With the sudden influx of messages regarding [y/n] and how he looked at school, the two met up at [y/n]'s house.
"[y/n], why didn't you tell me? I would've helped you,"
Ryouta held [y/n]'s now apparent skinny hands as the male just smiled as if nothing was wrong.
"Hm? I don't know what you're talking about Ryouta~"
[y/n] felt the hands around him tighten and Ryouta's expression darkened.
"What has my mother been saying to you? Tell me please."
[y/n]'s body visibly flinched but he continued smiling nonetheless, "Your mother is just looking out for you, cherish it okay?"
Ryouta didn't understand and he looked at his boyfriend with confusion swimming in his yellow eyes.
"What? I cherish you. I love you. If my mother is causing you to look like this I'll speak to her, tell her to stop what she's doing. No. I'll force her."
As he turned around, he felt a hand wrap around his, "What-"
The male looked at his older boyfriend with a sweet smile that didn't quite reach his ears.
"Ryouta, I love you. You know this but..."
The male's smile grew fake as his vision blurred, tightening his grip around the high schooler.
"Let's break up, okay?"
After he said those words, he felt his body go numb slowly. He barely recognized the door slamming and the faint sounds of Ryouta saying he was going to fix it.
The male fell to the ground right after, tears trailing down his face as he blankly tried to wipe them away.
'It'll stop now... righ-'
"[y/n]."
The male's body jumped as he looked towards the direction of the voice.
"We're here."
The soccer player blinked slowly, realizing that he was just daydreaming. He grabbed his sports bag that contained everything he needed for the training camp and threw a small smile towards his dad as he exited the car.
"Thanks, see you in a week."
His dad nodded before driving off, leaving [y/n] to his anxiety once again. He turned around slowly, not spotting a certain yellow-eyed family and calmly walked to the bus where the rest of his team was.
Just as he hit the sidewalk, his ears caught a familiar haunting voice. The same voice he wanted to forget.
"Disgusting. I can't believe they allowed a homo to go to an all-boys training camp."
[y/n]'s body froze up and his eyes widened in fear. His body started to unconsciously shake as he clutched the strap of his sports bag.
"Mother, stop."
Ryouta knew his mother said the words loudly so that only [y/n] could hear, and he wanted to immediately rush to his side.
"I'm stating the truth," His mother pointed to her cheek, "Come on honey, a kiss before you go."
The tall male reluctantly gave one, hoping she would be gone quicker. As she drove away satisfied, Ryouta instantly ran to [y/n].
The first year had spouted out words before he could say anything, "I'm okay."
[y/n] turned around, a bright smile on his face as he forced his body to stop shaking, "See? It doesn't affect me anymore."
"Are you sure?" Ryouta placed a worrying hand on [y/n]'s shoulder.
"Yes, I'm sure."
Just as he said that Arata called out to the two of them, telling them to hurry up.
[y/n] looked back at his senpai and smiled, "Come on, they're waiting for us."
Ryouta looked for any signs of discomfort and mentally sighed in relief when he didn't find any, "Alright. Let's go."
[y/n] just prayed that nothing would go wrong during the training camp, however he knew it would be too good to be true.
