The next day, I walked up to Marco. His hair was combed back and it looked so good. No. I had to stop myself from thinking about these things. I didn't want to create more drama for myself.

"Hi, Marco. Can I ask you something?" I softly said.

"Yeah, for sure," Marco nodded with a smile.

I took a deep breath and asked if he wanted to go to the party together. His eyes and his mouth widened in surprise but recovered quickly, taking it in a stride.

"I wish you asked earlier because Marisa beat you to it. I want to be nice to her so I don't think so but thanks for asking," he winced.

I blinked. I blinked again. I nodded without saying anything because I knew my voice would tremble. Marco opened his mouth to say something, but I had already rushed away. I asked Mr. Garber if I could go to the washroom and he approved. I spent 20 minutes crying, why did I even ask him? Of course, he'd put Marisa first. Once I walked out of the bathroom, I saw Mr. Garber looking around. When he spotted me, he smiled.

"Hi, are you okay?" he questioned.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I nodded. He smiled once more and told me to go to class, so I did.

After school, I saw Ben about to get on the bus but I stopped him. He looked over at me with this embarrassed look and I realized it had been really hard for him to look at me ever since we almost kissed.

"Ben," I said.

He looked to the side, probably wondering how he could get away from this conversation with his dignity intact. "...Hi."

"Do you, um..." Why was it so hard for me to ask him to the party when it had been so easy to ask Marco? Maybe I was just scared of another rejection.

"Yeah?" he asked.

"Wanttogotothepartywithme?" I spilled out the words as fast as I could. I winced, expecting an inevitable rejection.

His eyes widened and he quickly looked at his shoes. Oh no. He was probably going to say no. Ughhh, why did I even try to ask?

There were a few awkward moments of silence.

"Sure," he mumbled, blushing.

Omigod he actually said yes. I didn't know what to say. Eventually, I plastered a bright smile on and said "Great! See you then!" Then I scurried away as fast as I could.

When I got home, I dumped my backpack on the floor and ran up to my room, and locked the door. A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door.

"Anna, what's up?" Adrien's voice was drier than dry. "Did you get rejected or something??"

On the mark yet again. I really hated my brother sometimes.

"Uh, no. I don't know what you're talking about."

I could almost hear him smirking through the door. "Riiight. Well, just know you can tell me anything, Anna." He snickered and walked away. I sighed.

I waited for a minute to make sure he was gone, then I threw open my closet. What should I wear to the party?

I finally settle on a simple red sweater and a pair of ripped jeans. I met Ben inside the house and he was wearing a black hoodie and sweatpants. Once he saw me, he walked over with a huge grin on his face. The DJ was playing a slow song and he asked me to dance. He led me to the dance floor and we swayed back and forth happily. Then, suddenly, the spotlight beamed on me. I froze. What was going on? I look around to see everyone looking at us. I spotted Marco and Marisa looking at me with wide eyes. Ben must have seen them too because his features tightened.

"Ben, I need to go," I let go of him and pushed past people to reach the door.

"Wait, Anna!" Ben called after me but I barely heard him. My focus was on getting home.
