I sighed, both guys were super nice. Both have helped me through my first days at school. Marco had Marisa, whom he didn't like. Ben was so sweet and nice to me. I didn't know what to do. The next day, someone rang the doorbell and I went out to see who it was. There, in front of me was Marisa.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, crossing my arms.
"I'm here to tell you that I'm asking Marco to the Valentine's Day Dance. I know how you feel about him, but you better not get in my way or you'll regret it, Anna," replied Marisa aggressively.
I rolled my eyes and retorted, "But will he say yes?"
"He will," she nodded, determined.
"Fine by me, Marisa. Bye," I said, as I closed the door on her. I couldn't believe Marisa. She basically rubbed it in my face that she and Marco were going to the dance together. What have I ever done to her? Maybe she was just jealous that Marco and I were friends even though we barely spoke to each other anymore. When we passed each other in the halls and the neighbourhood, we would wave and quickly turn the other way. There were only a few short days until the dance and I still don't have a date. What was I going to do?
"Hey, Anna! What class are you going to?" Ben exclaimed as I took my books out of my locker.
"Um...Ben, it's homeroom, silly," I laughed. He blushed and I could tell he was nervous.
"Right. Of course," he answered.
"Well, let's go!" I said as he followed me into our homeroom. I saw Marco and Marisa talking to our classmate Evy without a single glance at Ben and I. As I sat down, Ben had let out a breath he had surprisingly been holding.
"What's up?" I asked.
"What do you mean?" he replied, a moment later.
I sighed, "Well you're acting all nervous."
He widened his eyes. "Am I?"
I changed the subject but Ben didn't seem too interested in that either. He looked at me straight in the eyes and took a deep breath.
"I know we've only known each other for a short time, but I honestly think we're meant for each other, Anna."
I blinked, "Wait what? Ben, I-"
Ben continued, "Wouldyouliketogotothedancewithme?"
I gaped. Was this really happening? I looked away and gave it a thought. Did I want to go with Ben? What about Marco? Then again, Marco would probably go with Marisa to be nice.
"Yes, yes I'll go to the dance with you!"
His eyes flickered with joy as he folded me into a hug. I caught Marco watching us but he quickly looked away. We sat back down when the bell rang. After school, my friends Clarisse and McKeyla walked with me to the mall. We were all going to buy our outfits for the dance.
"Our Valentine's Day Dance is pretty casual. We'll help you look for something perfect!" remarked McKeyla.
"Absolutely!" Clarisse grinned.
Twenty minutes later, they had chosen a sparkly pink tee and jeans with hearts on them. It was PERFECT.
"I love it!" I squealed. I was admiring my new outfit when Clarisse nudged me. I looked up and saw the one person I didn't want to see. Marisa
