The cold atmosphere of the restaurant was made even more colder by the akward dinner they were having. Everyone was quiet except for Murad's dad who was making comments here and there to ease the atmosphere.

"How're your classes going?" his dad asked to Sameera. He seemed to be a friendly man in his late 50s.

"They are going well. I am actually in my last year of med school, so it can be a little difficult." Somehow she felt that it was much easier to talk with his dad than to him.

"So are you planning to work after this?" his dad asked back.

"Actually, I haven't decided it yet." she replied with her voice clearly stating that she was uncertain about her life.

"Let me know when you have made up your mind. My friend owns a hospital, I can recommend you there." he said with authority in his voice. She just nodded to his offer. She hated recommendations. She loved gaining things by her hard work.

"Its been so long since we last ate a dinner together." his dad mentioned with great joy.

"We are not complete as long as you keep forgetting someone." Murad spat back with hatred.

"Forgetting whom?" Sameera asked as she felt left out in their conversation. But nobody answered it. Everyone chose to ignore it.

Althroughout the dinner there was an awkward silence. Its just like no one bothered talking. The whole dinner felt like a formality. It was better not to hold one rather than going on a fake one. His mother was colder than her mother, like she was forced to come attend the dinner.

"Your dad is nice." she said to Murad on their ride back home.

"I don't think so. Its just an act he is playing. In fact no one in my family care about this damn dinner. It's just to keep the paparazzis' mouths shut." she felt some kind of anger in his voice.

"Well I can see that no one was interested in the dinner. It was very awkward you know." she said diverting her gaze from him to the window.

"Its how they are, they don't care about anyone else" somehow Sameera felt there was some dark past holding him back. His words give no meaning until you dig deep into him.

"What about you?" those words left her lips involuntarily, curious to know what his reply was.

"There's no one worth caring for, at least not until now " he said before parking the car in the parking area.

Sameera was doing the laundry when her phone rang. She ran to the place where she kept it for charging.

"Hello..." said from the other end.

"Ahlam? at least you called now." she answered feeling happy that finally her best friend called.

"Sorry, I was busy with some things. Can we meet today?" she replied back.

"You're back? why didn't you tell me?" Sameera literally shouted back.

"Sorry na.. I will treat you with some chicken." Ahlam offered knowing that her bestie loved chicken very much.

"You better or else I will cut you into pieces." sameera replied with suppressing her laughter.

"Look....Sameera...I..I have a very important thing I want to talk to you about, so come prepared OK?" she said with some kind of pain in her voice.

"What? You are making me panic." Sameera replied with her heart racing.

"Don't panic, meet me at Venus cafe. 1 pm OK?" Ahlam asked knowing clearly that her friend would have started panicking.
