Hailee's POV
We hopped out the car and Ferris grabbed my hand, leading me to one of the floats. Cameron and Sloane were looking for us and were speaking with each other. That's when Ferris started,
"Ladies and Gentlemen, you're such a wonderful crowd."
They was walking but started slowing as they recognized Ferris's voice.
"We'd like to play a little tune for you, one of my personal favorites, and we'd like to dedicate it to a young man who doesn't think he's seen anything good today! Cameron Frye this ones for you!"
Ferris started lip-syncing the words while I danced with the other girls. Cameron and Sloane looked like they couldn't believe it.
"Ayyy!"
"Ferris, Hailee get off of the float!"
"What are you doing?"
"Get off the float!"
I just kept smiling and dancing, while Ferris kept lip-syncing.
They ran up to us.
"Please you'll fall up there!"
"You're out of your mind!"
Cameron's POV
Everybody was going along with it. The police came and told me and Sloane to back up. Ferris playfully 'pushed Hailee's head with his fist.
We started following them and talking.
"You know there's nothing Ferris can't handle. I can't handle anything! School, Parents, the future...Ferris can do anything."
Sloane just looked at me.
"And Hailee has the whole world in her palm! I mean do you ever hear her complain about her parents?"
"Do you ever hear her not?"
"What do you mean?"
"I've been over to her house once. It wasn't bad, but Hailee was really quiet, especially around her stepdad."
"Wait, she has a stepdad?"
"Yeah, she didn't tell you guys?"
"No, she didn't tell anybody. What happened?"
"I don't know, it's not my story to tell, she wouldn't even tell me."
"Oh. I don't know what I'm gonna do."
I changed the subject.
"College."
I turned and looked at her.
"Yeah, but to do what?"
"What are you interested in?"
I smiled at her.
"Nothing!"
"Me neither!"
We both turned and looked at Ferris and Hailee.
"You're crazy!"
"What do you think Ferris is gonna do?"
"He's gonna be a fry cook on Venus!"
Hailee's POV
Ferris started singing Twist and Shout, while I danced around looking in the crowd for Cameron.
I saw him smiling at Sloane, her arm around his neck. I know Sloane wouldn't cheat on Ferris, that's not what I was worrying about, it was the smile he was giving her. Of course, it was Sloane, the girl he liked that was way out of his league. I was sad, but I knew that I couldn't let some boy ruin my mood. I put on a smile and started dancing around. I was shaking it around, getting the crowd into it, eventually surrounding the float and danced. I even saw Cameron dancing and smiling. They got really close and was swinging and dancing, I spotted Cameron dancing and watching me move. When the song finished Ferris did a trust fall into the girls and stood up and bowed. We left the parade and headed for the car garage. Once we made there, we talked and waited.
"You're psychotic! You are, man, you're outta your mind. I can't believe you did that, I can't believe you went on A DAMN PARADE FLOAT!"
We all started laughing.
"Okay, okay, wait, no, okay, wait, okay."
He then tilted his head and started impersonating Ferris.
"Yeah, yeah, this tune is one of my personal favorites. You're outta your mind. You realize how many people saw you? You're nailed!"
"No, No, no"
Sloane then started in.
"You are nailed."
"No, no, no."
I shook my head.
"You are so!"
"Who'd believe that I was in a parade? Who the hell am I? Besides, anybody who would nail me wouldn't go to a parade."
"My mother would."
"I'm not worried about your mom!"
We all started laughing again. It wasn't a long wait and before we knew it the car rounded the corner. The guy honked the horn, and caught our attention. Cameron looked the car over to make sure it looked alright.
"That was so quick!"
"This looks okay to me Cameron."
"It looks great! Let's roll."
"Okay, here you go, nice job!"
"Hey you are a very generous individual, come back anytime, and I'll still take a little extra for your lady friend here."
The guy was staring at me while I got clumsily into the car. Cameron spoke up.
"Sorry, I done told ya pal, she's with me!"
We stuck our shades on and Cameron put his hat on backwards. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder, and smiled at me. Being polite, I graciously smiled back at him, before putting my ear buds in and turning on my music. Ferris cranked the car, and took off. Once we was driving down the road Cameron broke the silence.
"I feel pretty good."
"Yeah?"
"Feel real good, those guys, those guys were nice, huh, at the garage? I was a little worried about them."
Ferris looked around them looked at the odometer.
"Turned out good,"
Cameron said with a stretch.
"Hey!"
Ferris started counting on his fingers.
"Cameron?"
"Yeah?"
"How many miles did you say this thing had on it when we left?"
"A hundred and twenty six, and half way between three and four tenths."
Cameron turned and looked at me before taking his shades and hat off.
"Why? How many miles are on it now?"
Then Ferris acted like there was a camera beside him.
"Here's where Cameron goes berserk."
Cameron let out the loudest scream, that it sounded like it echoed throughout the city. Once we took off, he went into a catatonic state. He was breathing fast and looking straight ahead. I tried grabbing his hand and squeezing it, I rubbed his back, but nothing was working. I hugged him, I poked him, I did everything. That's when Sloane turned around.
"Cameron? Are you okay? Cam?"
He just stared ahead.
"Cameron cut that out!"
We stopped at a spot where you could see the beach, and got him out. We laid him on the wall and started trying different things to get him out of his state. I rubbed his temple, poked his cheek. I even played some music. Ferris meanwhile was talking to whatever he's been talking to, explaining how their friendship would go, and his plans with Sloane. Meanwhile, me and Sloane started talking to Cam.
"Cameron?"
"Cam."
"Can you hear me?"
"Cameron?"
"Blink if you understand me."
He didn't blink. His eyes were really red from not blinking, and it was starting to worry me. Sloane looked out at the ocean while I stared at the boy I loved. I wish he would've given me a chance, but he's after Sloane. Sloane turned to Ferris,
"Ferris? We better try something else. This isn't working.
