Cameron's POV
I knew what I was getting myself into and I knew I was probably going to get nervous before he came home, which is why I turned to Hailee.
"Hailee?"
"Yes?"
"Will you stay with me? At least until he gets here?"
"Yeah, I probably can. It's not like my parents will notice I'm gone anyways."
I just stared at her. Her eyes then widened, realizing what she just said she walked out of the shop. Ferris eyebrows furrowed, while I watched her leave. Sloane raised her eyebrows and scratched along her hairline. Ferris looked at us.
"What was that about?"
Sloane looked at him.
"Not our story to tell."
Ferris pondered it a little more, before deciding to drop it. He walked out of the garage, to find Hailee gone. Sloane came out and noticed to, Cameron right behind her. Ferris looked around. Her Walkman was gone. I turned to Ferris.
"Look man, I love that girl. I have to go find her and you need to be home before you get caught."
He nodded his head and grabbed Sloane's hand.
"Come on, Cameron's right we have to go before I get caught or we're all in trouble."
"Okay."
I watched them run off and started thinking of where Hailee could be. Then, it hit me like a load of bricks. We built this treehouse when we was younger out in the woods behind my house, of course it's been years since we've went out there, but it was always her favorite place. I went in my house and grabbed a couple of my tapes, sticking them in my pockets, I started off down the trail. I had to weave around bushes and plants, watching every step I made, until I reached the tree with the built in ladder. I started climbing the ladder, hearing a few sniffles coming from the top. I reached the top and peaked in. She was just sitting there, hugging her knees to her chest, earbuds in her ears, the volume all the way up. Her cries were muffled, tucked away in her knees, the pain and fear in her eyes, tears in her bloodshot eyes. She looked so broken. It was like a total different side to her, one that was never shown and was always hidden, vulnerable in a way. I climbed in and sat down beside her. She was too busy jamming out to notice me. I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her towards me. She just started sobbing harder, I grabbed her hands, coaxing her out of the feeble position she was in. She wrapped arms around me, burying her head into my chest. I just held her in my arms.
"It's okay Hailee. Take your time, let it out. I'll be right here when your ready to tell me."
Her earbuds fell out at some point and was laying on the floor, her music blasting through them. After a few minutes of crying, she let go of me and wiped her tears. Sniffling, she started chuckling.
"I told myself I would never cry in front of you, especially ugly crying."
"It's fine, you need to get it somehow."
"Did Sloane and Ferris leave?"
"Yeah."
She looked down and back at me.
"Hailee...what's going on?"
"Nothing...it's fine."
"No! Hailee don't lie to me...Sloane told me something's wrong...but she told me you had to tell me."
"I guess you have the right to know."
She pauses the music and turns around directly in front of me.
"I haven't had the best home life, kinda like you."
I looked at her, knowing the pain.
"I have a stepdad, my dad and mom split when I was 2, it was big fight."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be, I don't see him much anyways. Anyways, when I was 4 my mom met my stepdad. He was pretty cool, but as I got older, it got worse. I was expected to come home and do everything, if I didn't I-I was the worst person ever."
"Where's your dad?"
"He got a new woman, they had a daughter, I just don't see him much. It was as if I didn't matter to him anymore."
I pulled her into my chest, wrapping her arms around me. She held onto me tightly, as if I was going to disappear. I held her in my arms, savoring the moment. She was the best thing to ever happen to me.
Hailee's POV
I just let him hold me. I held on to him tightly, afraid this was all a dream that was going to disappear. He's the best thing to come into my life in a long time. Him and the others were some of my happiest memories. Besides, the ones I made when I was younger with my grandpa, but, that was then and now he's gone. I finally let go and looked at my Walkman.
"Hell! I shouldn't be the one crying, you have to deal with your dad."
"I'll be fine with you here."
I looked up at him and frowned.
"Why me?"
"Because...because..."
He stared at me, wanting to tell me something. I just cut him off.
"I figured you would've wanted the girl in your classes or Sloane..."
I said the last part quieter, not wanting to admit that I was jealous. He smiled at me and started laughing. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked up at him.
"What's so funny?"
"Well for one, you thought I liked Sloane, when, clearly she is into Ferris and only sees me as a friend. Two, that girl that I like in my class...well j don't know."
"Maybe I can help, describe her."
I grabbed his hand squeezing it, looking him in the eyes. He looked out the little window, thinking for a moment.
"She beautiful, has an amazing personality, pretty hazel eyes, blonde shoulder length hair that is messy and falls perfectly around her face, a crooked smile and contagious laugh, and a cute pointed nose, and is always there for me...oh, and she's sitting right in front of me."
I smiled at him before my eyes widened, realizing what he said.
"You like me? But, you said she didn't notice you."
"Because...I always thought you never noticed me. I always seen you talking to other guys. Besides, what does it matter? You like that guy in your class."
Now it was my turn to laugh.
"What're you laughing at?"
"I was talking about you silly! You're the guy that I like. Gosh, when I see you enter the room, I feel like my whole world turns around. It becomes a hundred percent brighter, my smile isn't fake, it's genuine and real. You are the only one who can bring that out in me."
His lips curved into a smile and he hugged me.
"Hey Hailee?"
"Yeah?"
"Will...will you go on a date with me?"
"Yes, I would be happy to go on a date with you."
"Well, I think we should get to my house before my dad gets home."
"Come on."
I grabbed his hand and my Walkman. We walked down the path hand in hand, smiling like a pair of fools. Once we made it inside his house we went to the kitchen.
"You want anything?"
"I'll take a water."
He grabbed the water and handed it to me.
"This place hasn't changed."
"Nope, it's still like a museum. Nothing is to be touched."
"I'm sorry."
"It's cool, I don't expect anything to change. Do you want to go to my room?"
"Sure."
I grabbed my water and took his hand. He lead me to wards his room, opening the door. His room was almost perfect, a little messy, but it's a boy's room. What do you expect? We sat down on his bed and I took in everything. He broke the silence.
"Do you want to watch tv?"
"Yeah, sure."
He turned on MTV and ewww both laid back and watched. He then pretended to yawn and stuck his arm around my shoulder, I didn't mind. We sat there until we heard the front door open and a set of footsteps head towards the door.
