                                                                    Chapter 1 - Unfamiliar faces

Aria's life took an unexpected turn.   She frowned as a blurred image of her father came to her mind. Words about a legend, laughs on a journey and tears from goodbyes made her stir. Tingling sensations reached her fragile arms as her fingers felt the cold, smooth cloth sending chills through her spine. She slowly gained consciousness as she opened her eyes abruptly, feeling a surge of energy running through her. As her eyes travelled around the room, she barely registered a striking collection of white furniture.

She panicked slightly; panicked because she knew not where she was and slightly because she had barely any strength left. Left from what? she asked herself as she lifted her hand, observing it like a madwoman, analysing a strange light coming from her olive skin. She jumped as the light disappeared and blinked as she took a deep breath. She tried to get up from the white four-poster bed but miserably failed as her legs gave up and there she fell.

"What do you think you're doing young girl?" asked a short but plump woman, in her mid-fourties. Aria turned to see who it was. "Don't you see you're as weak as Erin's legs?" scolded the voice. Aria raised her eyebrows in amusement. "Come on! Get up! Take my hand," the woman smiled and took firmly Aria's hands, helping her getting up on her feet. "I'm Evelynn. What's your name sweetheart?" she said with a wide smile. Aria was pleasantly surprised but kept a distant behaviour.

Evelynn eyed her knowingly, smoothing her pillows and glancing at the mirror accross the room. Somebody was watching them. "Of course he's here." She thought. She looked at the young girl with the long black hair and wondered how could someone as young as her could be involved in such a dangerous life. "Destiny chose them," she reminded herself repeatedly. "Nothing can be altered from now on." Of course, Aria had no idea of what was going on.

"I...I'm Aria" stuttered the young girl as she looked around the strange room. "Where am I?"

"In a safe place." replied Evelynn warmly as she smoothed Aria's silky hair. Aria protested, unsatisfied with the reply. "Safe from what?" she inquired. Her eyes followed those of Evelynn and she looked at the mirror. "Is someone watching us?" asked she. Painfully, Aria got up and walked to the door.

Evelynn remained by the bed, smiling tenderly to the struggling and stubborn young girl who would surely make things difficult for them this year. Aria banged the apparent one-way mirror and yelled at the top of her lungs for someone to free her. She was confused by the calm poise of Evelynn, who kept smiling. Suddenly, the red-haired woman said, "I think it's time. You can come now.". Evelynn was not talking to her. At first, Aria was confused but the door opened and a mysterious man came in.
