It was a race against time, to get back to Bridget and Althea before they were tricked into sacrificing their angels. I had no idea how we would get there, nor how we would fight four angels. But Lucifer turned out to be pretty accommodating, he offered us the use of his army, which included ghosts and ghouls. Apparently he couldn't accompany us and help himself, something about leaving the underworld without a leader being a very bad idea.

"What I still don't understand, is why we get that tingling sensation whenever these guys are around? The angels never really explained it fully." I mused aloud while we rode down the river.

This time there was no ferryman, thankfully, the boat Lenna and I were in moved of its own accord. We were to be taken back to the land of the living, something Lenna was able to do since, according to Lucifer, she wasn't actually dead. I was still trying to process that, among other things, I never wanted to think about her being dead, ever again.

Lenna nudged my shoulder. "The Horsemen are supposed to be connected to pain, suffering and death. It's only natural we would feel something when they're around, it actually makes a lot of sense now that we know the truth."

"I'm not sure I can accept that as the truth just yet though, we've been told so much recently, who knows what to believe."

Lenna frowned, "You accepted being a Guardian?"

I peered behind us at the army of ghosts and demons, a much bigger group than the horde that attacked the angels compound. The sight of them was intimidating, I was glad we weren't the ones fighting them this time.

"I know, but being the hero that would save the world was easier to imagine than being the ultimate, world desteoying villain we're supposed to turn into."

Lenna paused for a moment, I don't think she'd considered that's what we could become. The four of us were supposed to turn into these entities that would decimate the world and cause untold suffering. I couldn't see myself like that, nor could I see Lenna and the others like that either.

"Let's just get Althea and Bridget away from the angels, we can figure out what our future holds once we're safely together again."

I smiled at her trying to take charge of the situation. She wouldn't let this bring her down, she'd been killed and taken to the underworld, just for her life and everything she knew to be shattered once again. And she still wasn't letting it stop her from doing what was right. I mean, I was doing the same thing but I found it much more admirable in her.

I reached over and held her hand, it was nice being alone in the boat together, even if we were heading for the fight of our lives.

"Speaking of the future, we haven't had chance to discuss what was about to happen in the kitchen..."

I trailed off, not wanting to be too presumptuous in case I had read it all wrong.

Lenna visibly blushed but she turned to look at me, her eyes sparkling in spite of the gloom around us.

"I think we both know where it was about to go, and I'll be happy to revisit that scenario..." she paused and placed her hand on my cheek. "After, we're all safe."

I smirked and placed my hand over hers, "I'll hold you to that."

She smiled back at me and the look in her eyes made my stomach flip. But of course, our moment was ruined when a giant portal suddenly opened in front of us. The boat stopped and so did the army behind us, we were to go first, that much was clear.

We hopped out of the boat and stared into the portal, hand in hand I glanced down to Lenna. She looked determined as she stared up at me. We shared a nod, it was all we needed to know we were both ready to do this. We walked forward through the portal, holding tight while we were thrown around in the dark abyss.
