You ready for some tears...
"Hey Arthur, its Merlin. I don't know if you can hear me but I need to get somethings of my chest." I inhale deeply, summoning all the courage I can before launching into my ill prepared speech.
"Arthur, since I first laid eyes on you I was captivated. When I was told by Kilgarah that it was my destiny to serve and protect you, for you would become the Once and Future King, I couldn't believe it. That my destiny was intertwined with someone as noble and brave as you. I have never left your side and never intend to leave your side. I don't think either of us could last long without each other. I mean you can barley get dressed on your own."
I laugh at the memory of walking in on Arthur trying, and failing, to dress himself. How someone can be so intelligent yet so incredibly helpless I will never know.
"Arthur I love you. I love you with the deepest part of my soul. When you removed the ban on magic upon realising I was a warlock, I thought I might drop dead out of shock. I never thought you would show me mercy, after betraying you for years. But you did. And it has only made me love you more. So, King Arthur Pendragon, to show my undying love and gratitude I hope to wake you. I only hope you feel the same for me."
Without wasting another second I lean down and place a chaste kiss on his lips. I hold it for a moment, savouring the feeling it gives me. When I pulled away I hoped to see his eyes flutter open, his beautiful green irises staring up at me. But there was nothing. No movement. Nothing.
I bite back a sob. I knew he didn't love me.
I get up to leave, not bothering to hide my tears, when i feel a small tug on my hand. It was barely acknowledgeable. If it hadn't of been accompanied with a small groan I probably would have walked out the room. Arthur's eyes were still shut, lips slightly parted. But his hand was now resting comfortably in mine, twitching slightly as if he was comforting me.
"Arthur? Gaius! Gaius I think he is waking up!" I call, not taking my eyes of my King.
The door bursts open and multiple footsteps approach me. I turn to see the smirking faces of all the knights along with a smug looking Gaius. The way they look at me makes my cheeks catch fire.
"I knew it!" Gwaine cried. I know exactly what he was talking about and shot a look at Gaius who shrugged innocently.
"I wasn't going to lie to them Merlin. Besides they were standing outside the door the entire time. They heard everything." I sigh, looking back down at Arthur who's eyes were beginning to flutter open. I squeeze his hand gently, all former embarassment forgotten.
"Merlin?" I choke on another sob as he whispers my name. His eyes are slightly open, still heavy from sleep. But that doesn't stop him from reaching up and wiping away a tear.
"Don't cry Merlin." He says simply.
I hear Gaius shoo the knights out of the room, much to their opposition. I heard him chuckle to himself as he closed the door once more.
"Don't scare me like that again, do you hear me. I thought I lost you." I cried, stroking a strand of hair out of his face.
"You will never lose me. I love you."
My heart stops. In that moment, I cast away any doubts and fears that had clouded my mind in the past. I carefully cradled Arthur's head and kissed him, more passionately this time. I must have taken him by surprise as he didn't kiss back right away. But when he did it was with so much love that I felt weak.
When we parted we were both panting, smiling like idiots.
"I love you too you prat." I say lovingly. He smiles wider. I will never grow sick of that smile.
"You need to rest for a couple of days until the spell has fully worn off. I will send Gaius to check up on you shortly." I say going to leave.
He tugs my hand, albeit very weakly but with enough force to stop me. "Stay with me."
I can't tell whether his eyes are still thick with sleep or he is giving me puppy dog eyes, but whatever he was doing it worked. I sat back on the bed allowing Arthur to put his head in my lap and in mere minutes he is passed out.
I carefully move him back to his pillow and curl up beside him, draping my free arm over his waist, my other hand still intertwined with Arthur's. I fall asleep the happiest I have ever been.
I don't know if i should end this here or carry it on. What do you guys think?
