Chapter 2

Morning.

I woke up earlier than usual, and stretched. "I must have good luck, waking up so early!"

I felt my mouth contort into a smile as I went through my daily routine.

You might be wondering, dear reader, why I'm so cheery and happy? Well, I, Nishikawa Himari will gladly tell you.

It's because... everything is fine!

Fine, you say? Yep, totally fine.

Because, I'm a proud student of Ichikawa High!

Last night, I went downstairs and checked. We didn't eat anything celebratory meal, and there were no decorations anywhere. Plus, as a safety test, I asked Dad last night if he had been promoted as a director. He got a bit annoyed that I slapped him awake, but he said no!

N. O.

No~!

That means, I thought with a smile, that I don't have to leave my school!

That thing yesterday was just a dream! A small, unimportant, nightmare. Yes~!

I headed downstairs, feet light as air. "Hello Dad~! How are you this beautiful morning?" I asked my dad as he was making breakfast. He had a worried face.

"Himari, what's up? Oh, do you have a fever?"

I smiled brightly, and he cringed. "No, dad, I just feel really happy! You know, I had a horrible nightmare last night!"

After shooting me a concerned look, he turned his back on me, and started handing out breakfast onto two plates. I sat down and began to eat. "Oh, that's right, it's because of your faulty bed, isn't it? Don't worry, with my salary as director, I'll be able to buy a new one for you in no time."

I choked.

"W-W-W-what did you just say, dad?" I said, trying to maintain a semblance of composedness. It failed. Horribly. If I wasn't so horrified, I'd pay to see the look on my face right now.

My smile was frozen on my face.

...I-I-I-t c-couldn't be true, right?

RIGHT?!

Dad looked at me funny.

"What's with you, Himari? Didn't I tell you yesterday? That I got a new job as director..."

My eyes widened. I swallowed hard.

"Th-Then, I have to t-t-t.."

"Transfer schools, yes! Isn't it great? Now you get to go that school with those celebrity children at that glamourous school...To be honest, I was really worried about your worsening grades, but if a future employer sees that you attended Saffron Academy, they'll fight to employ you!"

...Yeah, no, job safety isn't exactly my primary concern, dad...

Bu my dad went on.

"Ah, Himari, hear this! Apparently, If you manage to complete three years, the Queen of *ngland will personally attend your graduation ceremony and knight you! Isn't that amazing?"

Why would this even be a thing, father...and wait, doesn't that mean that the whole school gets knighted?? Wh-whoa...

What's amazing is the Queen...

...Wait! That's not the main problem! I need to persuade him into retracting my transfer to that rich kid school!

"Dad, I don't want to enroll-...?" Hmm? Where is he? Where did he go?

Suddenly, I heard a car honk. I ran to our window. Dad?!

He was sitting inside a limousine, drinking apple juice in a champagne glass and leaning. "Himari, I've got to go to work! See you tonight!"

I was shocked. I ran out of the door, down to the parking lot and started banging on the windows. "Ah, hey, dad, just wait-!"

Alas.

The limousine took off, leaving me in the dust.

I stratched my cheek in confusion.

Ah, ahaha...where do I go from here?
