Tournament for the Jack
The rosters for the tournament had been checked and revised by Arlo. Only a few had been crossed off mainly because they were purely for gags. There were sixteen students that would be participating in this event, one of which Arlo was interested in watching.
The ride to the battling area had been mostly uneventful save for the few students who were all talk but no game. Those who had been sitting in the same cart as the Wellston students had swiftly left the premises.
When they arrived to the field, Arlo walked to the tent that was set up specifically for the royals the day before, so that he and Remi could sit and watch the fights and make sure things run as smoothly as possible. Elaine, and a few other healers had their own tent so that they could be ready to heal someone if things took a turn for the worse during the fight. Arlo suspected they would have a few serious injuries today because no one jokes around when it comes to being a royal.
There were eight battles in total, the first one was Cecile vs. Gavin. A serious level difference and one that was basically already decided when it came to the winner. When the two contestants were called forth by Arlo, laughter erupted from the crowd. They knew as well as Arlo that this would be a quick fight. Arlo glanced at Gavin, his smug demeanor and overbearing confidence making it almost seem like he stood a chance.
“He’s a fool.” Shaking his head, Arlo addressed Cecile, "Cecile, are you ready?"
She nodded in confirmation, folding her arms in boredom. Arlo then turned towards Gavin, asking for the same clarification, "Gavin, are you ready?"
Gavin yawned, bringing a hand to his mouth before he acknowledged him. A slight towards the King that would be dealt with at a later time. “Good. Now begin.”
As soon as the fight started, Gavin rushed straight towards Cecile. However, Cecile stood still, watching Gavin with an amused expression. At the very last second, right before Gavin reached her, Cecile stepped to the side and flung her whip out, tripping him. In that same instant, Gavin not only fell, but he was trapped in a tight wrap. The short fight was over and Cecile was declared the winner. As Cecile walked off the field Arlo crossed out Gavin's name, scanning the list of contestants for the next battle.
Arlo smirked in anticipation when he read the two contestants off the list. The next round consisted of Blyke and Zeke. The crowd cheered in approval because they were finally having a battle that was closer in strength. Zeke had speed while Blyke had lasers. In fact, Blyke was better at a distance while Zeke was all about being up close and personal to his opponent.
"Zeke is a formidable opponent… however, if Cecile did her research correctly… Blyke should be victorious."
When the fight finally began, Zeke activated his ability, already halfway towards Blyke in the blink of an eye. A fierceness to his face, Blyke reacted with surprising precision and shot right where Zeke was heading, causing the blue haired kid to come to a screeching halt.
“Smart… on both accounts” Arlo nodded in approval.
Zeke wiped a few locks of his hair out of his face, a curious gaze on his figure. It was clear that a full on attack was not about to work. And as Arlo thought as soon as Zeke got near Blyke, Blyke dodged Zeke as he ran at him thought "dang he's fast I need to get farther away from him so I have a better chance to hit him." Zeke ran at Blyke again and this time Blyke ran toward him too and at the last minute zoomed past Zeke and shot his beam right to Zeke’s back legs with sniper precision . Zeke fell with a cry of pain and Blyke just smirked and walked off the field. Arlp00o sighed again and crossed off Zeke’s name on the list.
The rest of the fights took a lot longer but still were not as entertaining as Arlo thought and he began to become bored of the tournament. Finally the fights were finished and two were left for the final battle, Cecile and Blyke. During the whole competition they were they most promising candidates and showed great patience and skill.
Now that they were at the end just proved Arlo’s suspicion. “Now this fight will be interesting…” Arlo thought to himself.
