CHAPTER FIFTEEN

It's been three months. The babies are now going on four months, including Nick and I are the happiest. Not only that, but today is my high school graduation. I look forward to everyone being there. I'm so excited, because I heard around through different teachers that I have a high honor awards. Just as soon as the twins turned a month, I went back to school. I never really mentioned school that much, but yeah, I went. I care deeply about my education. I want a better life for my babies than I had.

"Maya, you look gorgeous," my mom smiled, bouncing Nichayan in her arms. Niko came around the corner bouncing Nichayah in his arms. "Wow, like sis looking like her big brother," Niko smirked. "Shut up," I laugh, straightening my gown and situating my cap on my head. "Say mommy you look beautiful!" my mom baby talked through Nichayan. I smiled, and kissed him on his cheek. As I walked down the hallway, Nick out of the bedroom with his digital camera. "Oh yes, I'm documenting this shit, Maya Denise Streeter is graduating today everyone," he spoke while filming me. "Nick," I laughed. "Well, you have thirty minutes to get to the stadium. Let's go," my mom said. We all boarded into two cars; Nick, the kids, and I were in Nick's car and my mom was with Niko in her car. Everyone else will just meet us there.

It took us twenty minutes to get to the stadium.

"Maya, congratulations beautiful!" mama Sheila beamed, hugging me. I grinned wide. "Thank you so much," I responded. "TT Maya!" Nick's three little nieces yelled. "Hey babies!" I cooed, kneeling down to hug them three. "All graduates need to report to the sanctuary room at this moment!" I stood up. "Well, here goes," I nervously said. Nick pulled me into a hug. "You got this ma, just shine bright, and smile wide," he joked. We both laughed, he always knew how to handle any situation. "I have to go, love you babies," I kissed my twins, and kissed Nick's three little nieces. I scurried to the room they held for us seniors.

During the whole graduation, I was beyond nervous. I scanned through the crowd to see that Bahja, momma Sham, my dad, and everyone else was sitting in one area.

"And for the citizens awards we have Maya Streeter," the principal announced. I was shocked also hearing my love ones yelling their lungs out. I walked up to the stage trying to hurry and wipe the tear that raced down my face. I accepted the award, and then the principal asked me something off of microphone. "Maya, I know this is spur of the moment, but would you sing a selection for us? I would greatly appreciate it, and I've heard your gorgeous voice before," she said. I nodded. "Okay, at the end of the ceremony," she said. I nodded, and then scurried back to my seat. I never expected to sing at my graduation, but hey, whatever. Throughout the rest of the ceremony, I won a few awards, but right before the ceremony was over, the principal got on the microphone.

"At this moment, I'd like to welcome our singer of night before us, Maya Streeter," she spoke. I heard my love ones screaming, and some yelling my name. I walked up on the stage, and stood at the microphone.

"Hello everyone, I'd like to sing a song named 'Journey to the Past' for everyone," I spoke as I scanned through the crowd. I seen Nick recording me on his camera, my mom with tissues, and Bahja smiling and pointing at me. Before I began, I took a deep breath as the music began to play. "Heart don't fail me now, courage don't desert, don't turn back now that we here. People always say, life is full of choices, no one ever mentions fear—or how the road can seem so long—how the world seem so vast—courage see me through, heart I'm trusting you on this journey—to the past." By the time I was finished with the song, I received a standing applause. I grinned wide, putting the microphone on the stand and returning to my seat. The principal returned to the microphone.

"Wasn't that just wonderful, give her another applause!" the principal beamed, following along with another loud applause throughout the stadium. Graduation was over, and I was walking with Nick and my mom. "You did amazing sweetheart, momma never knew you could sing like that," my mom beamed. I chuckled. "Yeah, I never really sing like that," I said. "Well, you got that gift and you should put it to use maybe," momma Sheila barged, holding Nichayah. Nick's three little nieces were walking by her side, terrorizing each other. Then, I seen someone familiar—Christopher.

"What's up Chris," I nudged his shoulder. "Maya, what's up girl," he hugged me. Nick then walked up to us. "Babe, this is Christopher, but Chris for short," I introduced him to Chris. "You sing right?" Nick asked. "Yeah, yeah," Chris nodded. Nick nodded, and gave Chris a brotherly hug. "Nice meeting you bruh," Nick said. "Same here," Chris smiled. I smiled. "So Maya, have you thought about singing?" Chris asked. I shook my head. "Man, I told her she got a voice on her," Nick said. I chuckled. "Yeah, she used to always sing at my grandma house when we were younger," Chris said, shaking his head. "Maybe I'll think about it, maybe," I said. "Well, you think about that and you have my number if you need me," Chris said. I nodded. "I do," I said. "See you around," Chris caught up with his little sister who also graduated today. "I think you should consider it," Nick said. "What about the twins?" I frowned. "Both of our mommas can get them Maya. I just don't want to see such a beautiful thing go to waste," he wrapped his arms around me. I laughed, but then got serious.

"I want to talk to you about something," I sternly said. "What's up?" he asked. "I don't think this drug game is going to well for you," I sincerely said. "Let's not talk about that here, but at home," he sternly replied. "Okay," I said. Then, we caught up with the rest of the family.

As the day passed, the whole family went out to eat, celebrating my graduation. Now, Nick and I were back home. Nick's nieces wanted the twins and momma Sheila did too, so we let them spend the night with her.

"Now Maya, what was you talking about earlier?" Nick asked. "The drug game. It's not safe for you, me or the twins. I want you to have a more safe life baby. I know you do too," I said. Nick nodded, then looked at me. "Look at this house, look at everything in it, the money I make help keep it going around here, so getting out of my riches? I don't think so," he semi yelled. I was taken aback. "I was just saying Ni-" he cut me off, "Well just shut the hell up!" he snapped. My feelings were hurt, and he seen it in my eyes. "Maya," he tried to reach for my arm, but I snatched away. I scurried into the bedroom, not being able to control the tears that was flowing from my eyes. Nick was outside the door. "Maya, baby I'm sorry I didn't mean to snap like that. I just don't like to talk about my job because I don't like it," he groaned. "You didn't have to talk to me like that!" I cried out. "I know baby, and I'm sorry," he pleaded. I got myself together, and opened the door. Nick pulled me close to him. "I'm sorry Maya," he hugged me close. I hugged him back. "It's okay, I'm just soft," I chuckled. He laughed. "You're not soft Maya, you just have emotions, and I need to stop letting mine get the best of me," he kissed my forehead. "Right," I agreed. "Want an extra birthday present?" he asked. My eyes widened as he nodded smirking. "You're so nasty," I cooed, pointing my index finger in his face. He picked me up by the butt, and took me inside the room, slamming the door with his foot.
