CHAPTER NINETEEN
As I lay in my hospital bed, I sighed. "Why is this happening to me?" I asked aloud. Nick came in my room with breakfast. "I have breakfast ma," he smiled. He handed me the bags, and sat on my bed next to me. "Thank you, where's the babies?" I asked. "They're with my moms and nieces," he replied, reaching into the bag. I nodded. "Well, what you have planned for the day?" I asked. He shrugged. "I don't know. Sit here with my fiancée for all I know," he said. I smiled. "I love your corny ass," I laughed. He laughed. "You're funny," he laughed. We both sat there, eating breakfast. All I could think of is what Nick had up his sleeve.
"Nick," I spoke. "What's up?" he replied. "What do you have in mind for what you're doing?" I asked. He sighed. "I ain't telling you ma. This is only between me and the guys," he replied. "You don't have to hide it from me!" I exclaimed. "Ma, chill. If I wanted you to know, I would most definately tell you. Shit, Niko not even telling Bahja. We just have a close look out on her," he explained. "Well okay," I said lowly.
Later that day, I was released from the hospital. We had just settled at home when Niko called me.
"Hey big br-" he cut me off. "Where is Nick?" Niko barked over the phone. "He's right here, why?" I asked looking at Nick. "Bahja just got shot!" he barked. My heart fell to my stomach. "Is she okay?" my voice began to crack. "She was shot in one of her main arteries, and the doctor ain't sure if she going to make it!" he explained crying. Right then, I broke down. "Do you know what happened?" I yelled with sorrow in my voice. "She was just finna go to the store. She went to unlock her car door when somebody did a drive by on her," he said. I shook my head crying. Nick snatched the phone from me. "What's going on bruh?" he asked. "Are you fucking serious?" he yelled. "This shit can't be real bruh," he said, shaking his head. "Damn man," he broke down crying. "I don't want to tell Maya, man. I don't," he sobbed. "Tell me what?" I began to get petrified. "Alright bruh. One love," he hung up the phone. He turned to me. "I don't know how to tell you this ma," he sniffled. "Just tell me!" I yelled. "She died," he said. I shook my head. "No, no!" I screamed. "The wombs were too fatal and she bled internally," he sat down. My world was spinning. Everything seemed unreal. Everything felt as if this was a bad dream and I needed to wake up.
I ran to my bedroom, and slid down the door. This was unreal. I cried and cried. Bahja, my bestfriend, my sister, was dead. There was a knock at the bedroom door. "Yeah!" I called out. "Open the door ma," Nick said. I scooted away from the door, and opened it. Nick walked into the bedroom and sat next to me. "I know how you feel ma. I felt the exact way when I lost my big brother," he said. I cried even harder. "This ain't real!" he pulled me into him and hugged me close. "It's okay ma, I promise," he embraced me close.
It's short for a reason. But stayed tuned! (: Rest easy Bahja :(
