Chapter 6
I watched Noya silently, as he played on the court. He received each serve and spike flawlessly, except for some of the times that he was too far away from the ball. The way he played on the court was silent, he looked so focused on the game. It's completely different from the loud Noya I'm used to, and it was giving me chills... but that wasn't the reason why I was staring at him intently.
What the hell? He didn't say anything to Azumane when he came! I don't think he even looked at him! What is he doing? Azumane is only a few feet away from him! And on the same side of the court too!
"Uhm... (l/n) chan?" I hear Kiyoko call out to me.
"Y-yes?!" I jerk back to the present, and turn to face my senpai.
"It's the club's point," she pointed out.
I felt my face heat up, and I quickly add a point to the scoreboard. "O-oh! Yes... right... sorry about that, Kiyoko san."
She smiled at me, before turning back to the game to keep track of the points. "It's okay. Sometimes I get caught up admiring their plays too."
"Ah... yeah..." I mindlessly agree, despite the fact that I wasn't exactly paying that much attention to their play, but more on Noya.
"But I see that you're more focused on Nishinoya kun."
I turn to look at Kiyoko to find her smiling a little bit, eyes still on the game. My eyes slightly widen when I realize how I must've looked like. Before I could jump to conclusions though, I decided that I shouldn't deny something that she hasn't even mentioned yet. That would have made me look like I did like him... if that's what she's thinking...
"I'm just not used to seeing Noya kun that quiet." I tell her, turning back to the game.
"I get what you mean," she replies, and I thought I heard her chuckle. "...but I doubt that's the only reason you're staring."
I flinch. Did it really seem that way? Ack! It's not like that! "Huh? U-uh..." I couldn't help but stutter as I try to respond. "I don't have a crush on him... if that was you think..." I scratch my head.
Kiyoko hums, and Tanaka spikes the ball, making the club win a point. "Okay then... I'll believe you," she says.
I add another point to the scoreboard.
A while later, while Kageyama and Hinata were arguing, I stared intently at Noya, hoping that he'd look my way. I'm assuming he felt my intense staring, because he turned to me, and met my gaze. I nodded my head towards Azumane, furrowing my eyebrows and mouthing words to him.
"What are you doing?" I mouthed to him, slightly whispering the words. "Why not at least acknowledge him?"
He furrows his eyebrows, mouthing back to me, "I can't do that!"
"Why?!"
"I just can't!" He replied. "What the hell would I say?!"
"I don't know!" I mouth back, widening my eyes and shrugging my shoulders. "Hey, thank you for passing by or something?"
"What the hell?" He mouthed, his face contorting into a look of confusion.
I held back from laughing at the look on his face, but before I could respond back to him, Hinata and Kageyama's fight had ended, and the game resumed.
I bit my lip, deciding to distract myself from Noya's problem by watching the game instead. I watched how both teams played, and thought to myself how complicated it must actually be than how it looks.
