"I rarely drink coffee with espresso," Arra shared, carefully placing a tray in front of you. "Maybe I should try it more."

"You should," you nodded before picking up the fork alongside the cup of coffee and sinking it into the tempting slice of cake.

"I might," she shrugged with a smile. "As long as you tell me how my take on it tastes first."

Silence wasn't usually as unbearable as this.

"Zeke?"

There was something off-putting about tonight, yet you couldn't—for the life of you—put a finger on what made it so. His lack of response didn't even come close to annoying you last night, last week, or even last month.

"Zeke," repeating his name in a much more serious tone had become a usual occurrence at this point.

"... Yes, (name)?"

His voice was firm yet distant, as if floating off somewhere else that didn't have you in it. It didn't take you a lot of signs to know that he had something else occupying his mind. You bit your lip gently at the sight of him beyond the boundaries of your computer screen, eyes pointed downwards as the small speaker on your desk let out small scratching noises.

Zeke's microphone barely picked up the sound of his pencil, light yet rough as it rasped against one of his many notebooks, and you were made aware that his attention was—as always—split.

Despite knowing this, you couldn't help but sigh in relief. Finally.

"Don't you think it should be time to plan the next meetup?"

"... Sure," he replied, eyes briefly glancing over at you—or rather, the image of you on his laptop screen, most probably blurred with the signal and worsened with his undeniably less than 20/20 vision—before returning to his work. "What do you have in mind?"
