The fresh spring air wrapped around our bobbing speed boat as it cut through the frothing waters below. Though the air was refreshing and cool, the sun beamed down and warmed my tan skin, baking me in it's light.
I closed my eyes, tilting my head back as I relished the feel of the open waters, the wind in my hair, and the alcohol in my stomach.
I was sitting at the edge of the boat, hyper aware that the scent of my impending heat was being tossed down the row of men. Kade and Don could not swallow down their beers fast enough, and Simeon was trying desperately to maintain a conversation with Hector, both of which looked physically pained.
Declan's eyes were darkening by the minute, and I could make out the tell tale signs of the straps of a life vest that was sitting in his lap.
When I cast my gaze to Declan, I locked eyes with him, feeling myself drowning in his whiskey brown eyes, his chiseled jaw clenched so tight. He was struggling...
The scent of your heat affects our mate even more so than others...Denali explained as I grinned deviously at him.
I could have sworn I heard his teeth snap together in frustration.
"-are we almost there?" I heard the new girl groan boredly. "The others are waiting on us."
Her name was Sarai, and she was beautiful with coffee brown skin and almond shaped eyes, her long black hair only complimented her beauty and I felt pale in comparison to her. Especially when I observed her well endowed figure.
From what I had learned about Sarai, her father hailed from Laos, but her mother was Native American. Had he not taken a scholarship to America, Sarai would not be here today. Indeed, she took her mother's traits and became a shifter, a fun conversation that occurred between her parents at the time.
"If Declan would hurry we could be there in just a few more minutes," Kelly yawned, running her hands through her chestnut brown hair.
I bit back a terrifying growl, not liking that Kelly was speaking my mate's name from her mouth so casually.
"I'm starting to sweat," Sarai sighed, fanning herself. "Can we stop? I want to dip and cool off."
That didn't sound half bad...Cooling down in the water might be just what I need to cut this impending heat and hold it off.
I could hear the thrum of the engine slowing and the cool wind slowly stopped. I rose to my feet and began to shrug the shorts off my legs and bunched the sweatshirt over my head. When at last, I was left bare in the sunflower yellow bikini, I felt a wave of insecurity before I tossed a sheepish glance over at Declan.
His eyes were nearly pitch black, gripping the steering wheel with such force I thought he would snap it into peices. But Kade, Simeon, Don and Hector...they looked on with darkening gazes as well.
