Nana was panting hard, blood oozing from the many deep burn wounds inflicted on her body by her opponent's sword, while he had only a few scratches and looked not least tired.
Another explosion went off sending Nana flying a few meters and clutching her right arm where a new burn mark appeared. Shin quickly caught his teammate before she could collide with the ground and started tending to her wounds, while Katsu, now all healed, attacked the swordsman in Nana's stead.
During all this time Yasu watcher her teammates get beaten badly, while frozen in spot and shaking in fear. Since the moment Kioshi caught a glimpse of his brother Jinpachi, he was paralyzed and in his own world full of fear, pain and sadness. It was his realm of nightmares, like the infamous Tsukikomi, just that that you trap yourself in state of utter fright and you can escape only after you embraced your own ghastly fears.
Inside Yasu's head everyone were shouting and pleading, trying to take control over Yasu, but Kioshi's fear was so strong that it looked like nothing could overpower it, but Rumi found a solution. She got close to Kioshi and slapped him with all her might, she herself shaking from anger
" Snap out of it and stop acting like a brat. He bullied you, he is your brother, so what? Wake up and look around you. Look at your comrades there fighting to death to protect you, look at us pleading and trying to reason with you, look at yourself so selfish, concentrating only on yourself like all that matters is you, all that matters is your problems! Look around and grow up, you snooty brat, the world doesn't spin around you and your problems alone" she spat out squeezing Kioshi's arm painfully while others gaped at her seeing this side of her for the first time. But it had its effect.
With his free hand Kioshi wiped his tear stained face and straightened his posture a determined look appearing on his face.
"Thank you, Rumi-chan, now I'm fine and ready to face my brother. I always knew that eventually it will come down to this and am finally ready to face the consequences" he firmly stated. For a second Rumi just stared at him, but when snapped out of it punching the back of his head
"Stop acting cool, brat" she shouted, but a small smile could be seen on her face
"Itai"Kioshi yelled rubbing his head, the corners of his mouth slightly tugging upwards as well while everyone else were full grinning by then
"Remember, Kio-kun, you are never alone" Masashi patted Kioshi on the back smirking while others shared the smiles with him. Finally Kioshi understood that a real family is and was determined to teach it to his older brother as well.
Yasu moved quicker than lighting catching Nana before she could hit the ground and setting her safely on the grass. She turned to face Jinpachi, who just sent Shin flying away with one of his explosions. The swordsman noticed the changed look in Yasu's eyes. The fear, he could even smell a few miles away, completely vanished now. All that was left was the confidence and determination, but he also noticed the lack of the killing intent as Yasu attacked him.
Jinpachi swung his sword as Yasu dodged brushing trough the yin-yang tattoo as a kusanagi appeared in her grasp. The strange thing was that Sada had received the tattoo from Kami* ages ago, but even thought all her reincarnations were born with it, none knew how to activate it for the sacred weapons, shakujo or kusanagi, to appear.
The following seconds all passed in a blur. Jinpachi and Yasu were engulfed in battle that to an outsider looked like a deadly dance.
To Katsu, who watched everything from afar all happened so fast, that his eyes couldn't follow at all and before he knew it Jinpachi was on the ground next to Yasu's feet with her sword's blade pointed at swordsman's neck.
At the moment to Katsu Yasu looked like some warrior goddess. And maybe she was as her hair swayed in the wind and her eyes seemed to pierce right trough her opponent. Nothing other than a newly found respect for a girl younger than them found it in Katsu's heart. At that moment Yasu really was a goddess to him.
"You won, I admit my defeat" Katsu heard Jinpachi say as Yasu drew her weapon away" Please, kill me now as for I don't want to live in shame of being defeated" he said, but nothing other than sadness could be traced in young kunoichi's eyes.
"I hope my comrades forgive me, but I won't kill you. I wish you become the best swordsman in Mist and carry on Munashi's name -"she then flashed him a sad smile mouthing something as her last words were dulled out by the wind and only the two of them heard that they meant.
* To make things clear. There are five gods Kuu, Ka, Tsuchi, Sui and Fuu and all of them together are called Kami.
