"Lena! Jesse's here to pick you up!" Kenji yelled as he and Ben walked out the front door of the house for school. I had decided to skip breakfast today so that I could put a little extra effort into my appearance for the day. If I was going to be Jesse's girl, I might as well play the part well. I decided on a pair of tight black skinny jeans, a loose maroon sweater and some gold flats to match my gold watch. I ran a straighter through my plain brown hair and grabbed my black bookbag. Day one of being Jesse's girl, here I come.
I saw Jesse's red truck was parked outside on the driveway as I passed by the front door to get some breakfast and say goodbye to my parents. But, to my suprise Jesse was inside talking to my parents as they sat at the kitchen table.
"Are you ready?" he asked me. I nodded slightly taking in his morning appearance. He looked tired, like he just woke up.
"Alright, have a good day sweetie," my mom said. My dad kissed my forehead.
"I got you breakfast, it's in the car." Jesse said.
"Thanks," I grinned. He took my bag from my shoulders and lead the way to his car. He opened the door for me and got in on the other side. Then he took off down the road.
"Did you really get me breakfast?" I asked him once the truck was out of sight from my house.
"Hah, nope." Jesse laughed. "I was just playing my role." Jerk.
"Have I told you I hate you today?" I asked him. He turned to look at me. His hazel eyes making contact with my brown ones.
"No,"
"Good. Well, I hate you," I smiled a fake smile at him.He shook his head and smiled.
"Okay, Adams, so here is the gameplan. We act couply today. And if people ask us how long have we been together, we say around a month."
"A month?" I asked. "Why a month?" I pulled on my hair and studied my split ends. I was in desperate need of a haircut.
"Yeah a month, trust me. If we say we were together for a month but just lying low and agreeing to see other people, it'll be like we werent sure how we would work out. But, it'll also show how much we quote on quote love each other." Jesse swerved wildly into a parking lot and parked the truck. "Make sense?" he asked.
"Not really," I answered truthfully.
"Ugh you are too difficult Adams," he said unsnapping his seatbelt and turning to look at me.
"I cant believe we are actually doing this," I said to him. "It feels so disgusting to have to label myself your girlfriend," My additude towards him was believable but on the inside I was feeling just the opposite.
"Come on Adams, you know it was probably your dream to be my girl. You wish that you were Jesse's girl," he broke out into song. "Where can I find a woman like that? Jesse's girl!" I mushed his face away from mine as I laughed at his stupidity.
"Come on Jesse, lets go."
We walked together through the parking lot his fingers laced in mine. His hands were so warm and soft. They sent tingles down my spine. I didn't want to ever let go.
I could feel the jealous stares from all the girls in the hallways as Jesse and I made our way to my first period chemistry class. Their glares were sharp and I could feel them digging into my face. I had never noticed how intense the competition to be Jesse's Girl had been before.
"Hey Jesse," I whispered in his ear.
"What?"
"I'm still hungry," I whined. My stomach was growling and churning. I was not about to go to class on an empty stomach.
