can i call you tonight by dayglow
finn sat bored out of his mind in front of his phone, waiting for the familiar and dreamy name, y/n.
he felt put out there, like a spotlight struck his position whenever he thought of her, like his brain was determining whether to think of her as a best friend or a crush. it leaned towards crush but it always tipped back to a friend.
it was weird having a growing attention to her, having always focused more on other people.
the phone lit up in the dark and his hands jolted to pick it up, his eyes reading the screen and smiling at the contact name. "hey."
"hey loser." she laughed. "what're you doing?"
finn gulped slightly, knowing he couldn't say that he was waiting for her to call. "i'm writing a song. hard stuff, you know."
he heard the girl chuckle, smiling to himself.
"cool. tell me what you've got so far."
finn's like went dead. he hadn't written a song or even thought about making one, let alone the lyrics.
"it's not that bad, is it?"
"no. no, it's just-" finn looked at his writing book, stumbling over his foot trying to get it. he flipped the pages over to look for his latest thoughts. "they aren't very creative."
"here, accept my facetime call." the phone call ended and finn strapped his guitar onto his shoulder, scattering back to the bed and accepting the ringing phone.
y/n was in the dark with only her dim lamp on, her hair disheveled and lip gloss on. she still looked so beautiful in finn's eyes.
"heyyyy." he joked.
"sup."
"okay. uh- don't judge me because it's still in the works. it's not gr-"
"i'll like it no matter what."
he nodded his head in preparation, starting to strum his guitar.
y/n watched in attraction towards his voice as he started to sing.
"so can i call you tonight? i'm trynna make up my mind just how i feel. could you tell me what's real? i hear your voice on the phone now i'm no longer alone just how i feel could you tell me what's real, anymore? cause i wouldn't know."
y/n smiled proudly, propping her phone up between her knees and clapped, watching finn's blush grow quicker and quicker by the second. it was something y/n loved about him. "you killed it." she stuck her thumbs up.
finn messily rubbed his hand against his eye out of embarrassment. he had practically expressed how he felt about her in an unfinished song. "thanks." his voice was low, not wanting to embarrass himself more.
he turned his camera off and stood up, going to grab something to fidget with. his heart sped up slightly, feeling his breathing fasten. finn's brain figured out that y/n was more than a friend to finn, more than a crush.
she was his lifeline, one of the things he was grateful for in his life.
"can i tell you something?" y/n muttered. her own heart sped up slightly.
"yeah! i mean- yeah, go ahead."
"i think i like you."
he felt his heart stop. "think?"
"fuck it. finn, i've liked you since we first met. jaeden was so happy to introduce me to you guys and you just stood out. i don't know but something about you just-"
"intrigued you?" he smiled dumbly, "yeah. i felt the same when i saw you. and- and i like you too."
so can i call you tonight? i'm trying to make up my mind just how i feel could you tell me what's real?
