Chapter 3
Nathanael found Wolfgang a day later and alone much to his delight, he had been trying to get Wolfgang alone ever since he found out that Amy‘s healing rate was not normal for a human. “We need to talk Wolfgang.”
Wolfgang frowned and glanced across the hall to Amy’s room where she currently was. He really wanted to be with her but he sighed and nodded knowing his duties had to start coming first for a while. Opening his door he walked into his room. When his father had first given him these rooms he had hated the layout, he had a massive sitting room and a smaller bed room. So he had swapped them around. His large king size poster bed stood in the middle of the room. Heavy antique wooden furniture was the main feature of his room.
Wolfgang walked him into the sitting room which had once been the bed room. “Okay what’s wrong?”
Nathanael sat in the chair across from Wolfgang, “Everything is wrong Wolfgang.” He said frustrated.
“Explain.”
Nathanael snorted; it was not as easy as that. “If Amy is human, I’m a fox.” He told Wolfgang bluntly.
Wolfgang sighed; he leant back and pressed his fingertips together. “Explain.” he said again, if he had to drag the answers out of Nathanael he would.
“Granted I don’t treat humans as often, but even I know how long their bodies take to heal, as long as there is no infection, no complications, she still should be bed ridden today; in fact she should not be here today, all medical advice and knowledge pointed to her death. Her ribs, her broken ribs would not now be healed; her collarbone is healed as if it was not broken. Wolfgang it’s only been two weeks, a normal human would still be in a medical induced coma, would have needed multiple major surgeries, she only needed her bones set.”
Nathanael stood and paced. He turned to Wolfgang as he paced, “I‘ll say it again, if she’s human I am a common fox.”
Wolfgang tensed, if Nathanael was right then that changed things. “But she swears she’s human?”
Nathanael slammed his hands on Wolfgang‘s coffee table in anger, hoping to bash this understanding into his Alpha‘s skull. “She is not human, when will that sink into your skull.”
Wolfgang laced his fingers together and waited, almost unaffected by Nathanael‘s outburst, he did not need to prove dominance; sometimes conceding ground could gain him an advantage. “Fine, tell me what she is then?”
Nathanael frowned and pushed off the table. He started pacing again only this time it was with a thoughtful purpose, trying to work his mind around the riddle which was Amy. “She’s not Were,” he mused aloud, “we would have smelt it on her and more importantly Bastion would have seen it.”
Wolfgang nodded, that was true, Bastion was one of those rare Were who had multiple abilities, the first and most prominent was levitation; anything within a two hundred yard radius he could lift, weight was no factor. His second ability was a lot subtler, all Were could smell the other races, a strangeness which was easily identifiable as not being human, but there were shades to those scents which were harder to discern; like which kind of Were and whether that Were was one species like a Siberian tiger or a Sumatran and whether that person was in a straight pride or mixed, or if an Elemental was fire element or one of the other elements, or if a Fae was a earth type or fairy or one of the numerous sub-races of Fae. He could look at a person and see what they truly were, what was beneath their skin, what was hidden as if there were a glamour or aura which was there but at the same time not there. But Bastion had seen nothing, he could even see it even when the people were clueless as to what they truly were, she smelt and acted human so they could only assume she was human.
