Chapter 4

Amy sighed as she walked into the library a few days later, Wolfgang had some work to do today leaving her to amuse herself. She had quickly gotten bored as she had explored the manor the day before in another fit of boredom while he worked. Glancing up from his paper work, he smiled at Amy, “Bored?”

“How’d you guess?” She asked sarcastically.

With a chuckle he stood and walked over to her, wrapping an arm around her he walked her over to a wall of his library. “Okay, these books are the Pack law and history of Wolf Haven pack, this pack. You can read whatever you like. I suggest however you start with these.” He pulled out two thick tomes. “All Were have to have these memorised before they turn ten and pass a test to prove their knowledge.”

Handing the first tome to her he put the second one back, she frowned as she read the title aloud. “Were and Other history volume one.” She turned to him with a questioning frown on her face.

“You’ll find it enlightening,” Wolfgang explained, “it‘s history as you‘ve never read it before, sadly volume two stops just before the American civil war so you‘ll have to read biased accounts after that.”

Amy went to the big soft leather chairs and flopped into the one she liked. Opening the book she started to read, almost forgetting that Wolfgang was in the room.

Leaning down he kissed her neck. “I want you to understand so don‘t be afraid to ask questions whenever you want.”

She nodded and smiled as he moved his lips and kissed her gently before she broke the kiss. “Don’t you have work to do.” She teased.

Chuckling at her cheek he went back to his desk and tried to get his mind to focus on work and not on Amy lying on the couch. Her scent quickly filled the room and crept into his nose making it harder for him to think about anything but her.

Bastion walked in ten minutes later with refreshments for them both. She barely noticed his actions, engrossed in the story being woven before her eyes, the story of their creation. Wolfgang smiled as he took his coffee, he really liked this, Amy near him while he worked. Bastion grinned as his eyes took in the companionship of the two in the room and quietly left them.

Wolfgang managed to get all of his work done moments before she turned to him.

“Is that really how it happen?” Amy asked.

He stood and walked over to a chair next to her. “How what happened?” He asked back.

“How Were came to be?”

He shrugged. “Each race of Were have their own version of the story. All are similar in some ways; in others they vary greatly. I think the Ancient who wrote this history is only writing about what he saw of one races birth.”

“So which race did he witness get born, because he didn’t say which?” Sitting up she turned towards him more as she spoke.

“I think he did that on purpose.” Wolfgang replied as he shifted back deeper into the chair.

“Okay so tell me what you know about your origins.” Sliding a book mark into place she put the thick tome down, hugging her knees to her body she rested her chin on a knee and waited for him to begin.

Taking a deep breath he thought carefully as he wanted to tell her the story the correct way so that she wouldn’t get confused when she read the written version later. “Long ago when man was taking his first steps away from being simply another animal. A child was born like no other, a boy, no one knows how he came to be adopted by a wolf pack or how he had lost his family. The pack for some reason thought he was like them, that he was a wolf not a man. He was raised by the pack never considering that he wasn’t one of them.”
