(Picture above is Dean's daughter Allie)
Leah's POV
I looked at the man that was standing right in front of me. I was frozen in place due to fear. When he fired his gun by my head and into the door that I thought I was going to be able to get out of, I knew that he meant business. I knew that I had to say something, but no words would come out of my mouth. I was right terrified of the guy. From what Allie said, her father usually was nice to her friends but now, I had some serious doubts about that statement. I finally found the words that I wanted to say.
"My name is Leah and I am Allie's friend." I said in a whisper. I couldn't make my voice be any louder than that.
He seemed shocked when I mentioned Allie's name. His eyes seemed to lighten up a bit but his expression stayed the exact same. It was almost like he had his face trained to do that. Whenever I asked Allie about her dad's job she usually tried to change the subject. My guess is that her dad's job is something very dangerous.
"How the fuck do you know my daughter's name?" He growled. Jeez he sounds like one really pissed off grizzly bear. Like seriously could he lighten up just a little bit I mean come on, it's not like I came in here to rob the place.
I couldn't make myself say anything else. The way his gun was pointed at me, I wasn't really feeling like he would put the gun down. I was terrified at that point. If I say anything else about Allie, I might get shot by this guy, who obviously looks like he wants to shoot me anyway. As I closed my eyes and waited for death to be struck down upon me, I heard what sounded like footsteps coming closer to us.
Allie's POV
I heard some commotion coming from downstairs. It sounded like dad was yelling at someone but I couldn't make out what he was saying. Then I heard a shot being fired and I knew that I had to intervene now or else the poor person was going to get killed by my father. I put my emotions away and headed down the stairs to see what he was yelling about. As I neared the stairs the voices started becoming clearer.
"Dad what the hell are you yelling about down there, I swear to god if it something stupid I will personally come down there and hit you in the head with the biggest frying pan I can find!" I yelled. I was not in the mood to be dealing with this.
When he didn't answer me, which seems to be normal now, I headed down the stairs to break up whatever the hell he was doing down there. I stomped my feet down the stairs, giving dad the warning that I am not happy about doing this. I already have enough to deal with today. I keep running the last day that I saw my best friend Leah and I keep trying to see the signs that she was leaving. I keep asking myself, why did she leave? Why did she not say goodbye to me? Those questions never seemed to be answered. Every time I asked those questions in my head, there were no answers to be found. Dad tried to help me through this but nothing could take my mind off of it. As I near the landing I can see that Dad is arguing with some girl. Typical dad, he always tried to argue with a girl. When is he going to learn that he can never win when he is arguing with a girl?
When I heard his gun go off again I knew that I had to intervene. Dad can be a little overprotective at times. He can also be a little trigger happy at times too, he's the guy who shoots first and asks questions later.
"Dad what the hell are you doing? Put the gun away you idjit!" I exclaimed. Jeez Uncle Bobby has really rubbed off on me. God can he be any more stupid than he already is?
"Allie honey, do you know this person, because she is claiming that she knows you somehow." Dad asked while he put his gun away. I can see where he fired because there are two new holes inside of the door. Uncle Sam is not going to be happy about that. He was the one who fixed the holes last time.
As I neared the mysterious person, I felt like I knew her somehow. Her black hair and light hazel eyes seemed to jog my memory. I kept studying her face trying to pinpoint how I know her, when the realization came back and hit me like the butt of a gun. It was Leah!
"Dad I do know her, it's Leah, remember the girl that I talked to you about, that's her it's okay, she won't hurt us I promise." I said. My father looked at me and then to her and then back to me, he seemed a little on edge so I threw out my puppy dog eyes. Uncle Sam taught me how to do that, it always worked on my father. I got the confirmation when I heard the sigh escape his lips.
As Dad walked away I turned to face Leah, who had a sheepish look on her face. It was the 'sorry for breaking into your house and almost getting shot by your dad but I am glad that you're here' look. I smiled and hugged her. I was glad that she came back, but a new feeling of anger washed over me. It's been two years since I saw her and she didn't bother to call me or anything. I guess she sensed it because she pulled away and looked like she was going to explain something.
"Allie, I know you're mad about me not calling and for disappearing on you for two years but I had a really good reason for it." Leah said. It was hard to stay mad at her but I still wanted to know why.
She looked past me then focused on me. What was she looking for, a hidden camera or something? I mean my family can be paranoid at times but Leah looked almost scared to say this out loud. I was going to say something to her but she cut me off before I could even get the words out.
"My mother, Jennifer would watch my every move; document where I went, who I talked to, who I hung out with and other things like that. She wire tapped my phone so that she could listen to every conversation that I had. Even her new boyfriend thought it was a little excessive but he didn't oppose it either. I had to be very careful and watch my back. It was tough living with her, she wanted me to forget you guys and make new friends in New York with her. I fought with her on everything. It was basically like living in hell for two years." Leah said while looking past me.
"I never thought it could be that bad living with your mother. I am so sorry for you having to go through that. But I am glad that you are back home" I said. What I really wanted to say was "that bitch! How dare she make your life a living hell, I've been in hell before and I will personally send her down there to be put onto the rack for the rest of eternity!" But I kept my mouth shut, knowing that it would make the whole situation even worse than it already was.
She looked at me with the 'thank you for understanding' look and then we hugged again. Seeing her again finally made me feel like everything is going to be put back the way it was before. We both didn't bother to look at the time until the clock rang out four distinct dings. So by that logic Uncle Sam should be coming home any minute now. He left two hours ago so he should be back by now. But knowing Uncle Sam, he is going to drive like an old lady. I am so glad that dad taught me how to drive like the way he does, because if I had to learn to drive by Uncle Sam I think I would pull over and throw him out of the car.
Dad walked back into the room and looked over at us. I think he was a little upset about how he treated Leah, but now he seems fine. He looked at us when his phone rang. It sounded like Uncle Sam on the other line because of the way that Dad was talking. I could usually tell who Dad was talking to by the way he answered the phone. The conversation was short and Dad hung up and looked at us with a serious look on his face. He only uses that look to really get my attention, which could only mean one thing; they had a hunt to go on.
"Hey girls, umm I have to head out and help Sam for a while so I'll be back in a while okay?" Dad said while looking at the door.
I heard the Impala getting parked in the garage so that meant that Uncle Sam was here. He quickly brought in the groceries and proceeded to his room and grabbed one of his bags. Dad did the same thing and threw them into the backseat of the car. I knew exactly what they were doing. They were going on a hunt. I hated that every time I bring a friend over, they always have to leave. I was at least allowed to introduce Uncle Sam to Leah. He did a kind wave and said his name, and he apologized profusely about having to leave. He was a gentle giant, or at least that is what I call him.
Dad and Uncle Sam left, and the bunker became very quiet very quickly. Neither of us knew what to say after that sudden departure. Leah knew a little bit about my family but not a whole lot about we do as a business. "Hunting things, saving people the family business" Dad would say to me. It kept repeating in my head. I looked over at Leah and she looked over at me. For while we said nothing, letting the silence fill the air. Then finally I had a great idea.
