Matthew's pov

I bit my bottom lip nervously, looking over the gift I got y/n for her birthday. it's a real silver necklace with a heart pendant that when opened, showed her favorite picture of us on the right.

the picture was taken on the day we celebrated our one month together. we were at the beach, dripping water from the ocean when she asked a random woman to take our picture with her phone. I remember how y/n jumped on my back when the lady told us to do a pose and wrapping my arms securely around the back of her thighs. then, not a second before the woman took the photo she leaned in closer to me and pressed her lips to my cheek.

on the left side of the pendant, the date we started dating was engraved into the silver. I knew- or hoped that she would like it.

shutting the long, black velvet box the necklace was neatly placed in, I gently placed it into a drawer in our kitchen that we used for miscellaneous things.

when's the last time she ever opened that drawer? I thought, and laughed to myself.

I headed down the hall and up the stairs towards our shared bedroom. "babe?" I called out opening the door, to see y/n sitting at her vanity. "there you are," a smile formed on my face when she looked at me through the mirror.

"hey Matt," she giggled -that incredibly cute laugh she has- as my eyes roamed all over her. y/n's breathtaking skin was complimented by her silk, ruby red bodycon dress, the exact one she knew I loved. the dress reached her mid-thigh, just enough to leave a little room for the imagination, but not enough to see. she kept her makeup to a minimum, which made me happy knowing that she was confident in herself; while her y/c hair was curled to perfection. "what? why're you staring at me like that?"

shaking my head a little, my smile grew wider. "n-nothing bad, you're just fucking stunning. how'd I ever get so lucky?" I mumbled the last part to myself mostly, but I knew she heard.
the reddening of her cheeks only proved the effect my words had on her.

"no need to spoil me," y/n laughed half-heartedly and my smile furrowed.

"i'm not just saying that because its your birthday." I shook my head. "i'll say it today, tomorrow, the next day and every single day that follows." my arms wrapped themselves around her waist form behind, as she stayed seated on the vanity bench. "you're the most beautiful woman i've ever laid eyes on and I became the luckiest man alive the second you said yes to being mine, princess."

she let out a shaky breath and I swear I saw her eyes start to water, but she spoke before I could. "what did I do to deserve you?"

I kissed the crown of her head, lightly. "I think I should be asking you that." y/n gave me an unbelieving face but I just shook my head again. "now are you ready to go?"

y/n decided that for her birthday this year she wanted to go clubbing, since her parents wouldn't be in town to celebrate today. but they did spend a few days with her before they had to leave, so she was happy about spending today with me and our friends.

so we looked up the club with the best ratings in the city and bought some passes.

she nodded, standing up and checking her phone. "the uber is two minuets away," y/n informed me, and I double checked for my wallet and phone. "and everyone's almost there."

"so then lets get going, birthday girl." I let her lead me downstairs and out the front door.

after grabbing her bag, she stopped half down the porch steps. "don't you think i'll need a jacket?" y/n tried reaching for the doorknob again, but I stopped her.
