Mr Evans sat patiently on the other side of the desk. He was the head psychiatrist in the hospital and he had requested to see me. I didn’t know whether I was in trouble or he was just really worried about me.
“Harry, how have you been?” His kind blue eyes stared at me warmly. I looked too Louis, who was standing next to me, for advice. I never made certain decisions without asking Louis first. I didn’t trust many people in this place and Louis always knew who was looking out for me and who wasn’t. It was all about trust for me and if I didn’t trust you then you wouldn’t even receive a glance in your direction.
“It’s okay, Hazza.” Louis encouraged. I nodded and turned back to Mr Evan who was clearly glancing at the place where Louis stood. It always caught people off guard. To anyone else it looked as though I was talking to the air and to mostly everyone I met it looked strange.
Mr Evan should’ve been used to it though. He always indulged me, sometimes speaking to Louis and asking me to repeat what Louis had said. It may be because in the past I was known to throw a few tantrums when people told me he wasn’t really there.
“I’ve been feeling sick.” I replied. This was something I’d had to deal with for quite a while now. Louis had begged me to tell a nurse a long time ago to explain the side=effects from the medication I was forced to take but it only ended in an argument.
“What kind of sick?” Mr Evan inquired.
“Whenever I take the medicine I throw up. Louis says it’s because I shouldn’t be taking it.”
“Is Louis here right now?” Mr Evan asked. I nodded. “Louis, why should Harry not take the medicine?”
“He’s not like these mental people. He can see me and taking medicine for no reason is going to kill him.” Louis said.
“He’s not like these mental people. He can see me and taking medicine for no reason is going to kill him.” I repeated.
“Louis, do you leave when Harry takes the medicine?” Mr Evan asked. I knew what he was trying to say. He was trying to say that Louis wasn’t real so when I take the medicine he is out of my head but it’s not like that.
“I wouldn’t leave him just because he’s sick. I always stay with him.” Louis looked at me with a loving smile.
“I wouldn’t leave him just because he’s sick…I always stay with him.” It was true. He always stayed with me.
“Always?” Mr Evan probed. “Do you not get to see your family?”
I decided to answer for Louis. “He used to see them at night when I’m asleep but he got really upset because even they can’t see him. “
The psychiatrist quickly picked up a notepad and began jotting down some things. Louis sneakily moved behind him and I could see his eyes following every single word. “Harry…and Louis, maybe we should continue this in the afternoon as I know you’re probably quite eager about seeing your friends in the morning visit.”
I was very eager. I hadn’t seen them in a while and Niall had called yesterday and assured me that they’d all be here. I leaped up from the chair happy that I could finally go and get prepared. I needed to clean my room and make sure I looked okay. I didn’t want to look like a crazy person, no matter how ironic that may be. I was about to run out the door but Louis stood in front of me making me halt immediately. He had a stern expression on his face, “Haz, you haven’t even said thank-you. Where are your manners?”
“Sorry.” I mumbled sadly. “Thank-you, Mr Evans.” And with that I ran out. I could hear Louis’ footsteps pounding behind me as he chased after me through the hall. Grumpy nurses commanded me to stop running but I ignored them. I was determined to see my mates and no one could stop me!
