"Time for the cat to be out of the bag," I heard Payton whisper.

What? What was he talking about? Wait, those are Mum and Dad's strict faces...are they seriously letting me know a secret? Is it that important that I have to be sixteen to know it?

"Mum, Dad, what's going on? Those are your strict faces...Am I in trouble or something?" I asked Mum. I hope I'm not in trouble. I really don't want anyone to mess up my happy mood on my birthday.

She looked at my Dad for reasurrance. Huh? Don't they trust me with secrets? If they do, why do they have to wait for me to tyrn sixteen? Ouch, that hurt.

"Carina, sweety, we have something to tell you." she looked serious. "Ok...what do you have to tell me?" I asked.

"You have to take an oath before we tell you." She held my hand and told me to repeat the words after her. The words seemed wierd. They weren't even in proper English. It was like the english they used in poems.

While I took the oath I glanced at Aidan. He was watching me. His green-brown eyes looking at me intently. I looked back at Mum in a swift. I felt butterflies in my stomach. I always felt a love connection between Aidan and me. He was like my lowkey crush. He was just so perfect. Then I heard him laugh. I looked at him. He was laughing at me. Why does he do that? He always laughs or respond to questions or thoughts I think of. It's almost like he can read my mind. I brush the thought away. He probably just remembered something funny.

We finally finished the last line of the oath. Mum and Dad beamed at me. Payton just stood there and gave a blank expression. "So we had to tell you," Mum began, "but we had to wait until you're sixteen," Dad continued. Wierd...

"Do you remember when you were younger we told you that you have a guardian angel who's always with you to protect you?" Dad asked. I slowly nodded. Where were they bringing this?

"Well, your guardian angel turns visible to you once you turn sixteen," Mum smiled. The expression on her face was the same one she had when I first went to school, or first cycled, or anything she thought was a huge achievement. I can't believe my ears anymore. They have to be lying to me. It must be a mistake. Questions are starting to pop up in my head, making me light-headed.

Guardian angels exist? Are Mum, Dad and Pay trying to fool me? They have to be joking, right? Is this even real? Am I in a dream? What's happening?

"Mum, you have to be kidding me right?" What they had told me was totally unbelievable. Mum shook her head. No. This can't be true.

"Dad? Are you guys pranking me? Cuz if you are, it's not funny," I said. He shook his head. What? This can't be real.

"Pay? Is it-" I hadn't finished my question when he cut me off. "Yes, it is. Just believe in it. But you have to keep it a secret, ok? That's why you took the oath. If you let out the secret, your angel dies," Payton warned.

"Every year, one lucky kid doesn't see their angel. They don't see their angel."

"You call that lucky?"I asked him. It sounded stupid. How's that lucky?
