Twenty-Two

Now silence once again.

Reminiscing the old days

Brought smiles upon our face

But unshed tears as well.

We sat up.

For the last time, I just wanted to let you know.

"I never stopped loving you."

You took a moment before you replied.

"I know."

My heart clenches in pain.

"It hurts."

You whispered,

"I'm sorry."

I searched for an answer in your eyes.

"Why?"

You caressed my cheek.

"I was scared."

I held your hand.

"And now?"

You let go of my hand and looked away.

"I'm still scared."

Tears well in my eyes.

Here we go again, I think.

"But I'm ready to try."
