Viggo turned over, squinting, trying to remember where he was. This wasn't the white room he knew. This was different. He could see clothing, coloured clothing laid out for him. And he remembered- he was back home. Back to his family. He rolled out of the bed, smiled, yawned and changed quickly. Eve had already awoken, and her bed had been made.
Viggo ran his fingers through his messy, slightly greasy hair and walked out into a corridor. He knew this corridor. he knew all the corridors of this place. he went out to the large area with the tables, the welcoming room. He smiled at the nickname, and he was lost in his thoughts it took him a moment to realize the group was standing there, talking.
"...Looks terrible, half-starved, sleep-deprived. I'm concerned." Viggo heard Vincent's voice, lowered and he faced Antonius. Antonius's brow wrinkled, but he spotted Viggo and waved everyone but Vincent out of the room. the two men stared at one another for a long moment. It almost seemed that both were a little teary eyed when Vincent strode forth and hugged Viggo tightly, pressing his face into the cyborg's shoulder. Viggo returned the hug, a few tears leaking from his eyes.
"Brother." Vincent whispered quietly, the word catching a little. "Brother. I can't describe how happy I am to see you alive."
"Neither can I." Viggo choked out.
"I thought you were a goner."
"So did I. So did I."
"But you found your way back home. Back to me."
"You're all I have left, Vin." Viggo sniffed a little, and Vin let go. He smiled weakly, trying to appear happy and hopeful.
At this exact time Eve had returned, and was standing in the door frame, having gone unnoticed by the two brothers. She didn't want to break it up, so she stood, listening.
"...leave my older brother without saying goodbye." Viggo said, looking at Vincent. Eve gasped quietly- Viggo and Vincent were brothers?!
"Goodbye? I don't think so, not yet, at least." Vincent said.
"Well..."
"Enough, You look terrible- skinny and sleepless, like a ghost. What did they do to you in there?"
"...nothing. Nothing that you need to know."
"Sure, sure, and I'm an emu."
"I don't want to talk about it. I want to leave it behind."
"Fine. At least tell me if they fed you properly." Vincent demanded sternly.
"No. Well, not really."
"Let's get you some food."
"I can find my way, thanks. Stay here and watch for Eve." and with that Viggo was gone.
Eve backed into the doorway a little more as Vincent took a seat. She never excepted Viggo and Vincent to be related in any way. Old friends, yes, of course, but brothers? And Vincent an older brother? it just wasn't in his character. From what Eve had seen, Vincent was a jester, sarcastic and silly. Not....like an older brother at all.
She stood there,. coming to terms with this new found information, and finally, casually opening and closing the door and coming in. She smiled at Vincent.
"Hey, is Viggo awake?" she asked, coming over and standing across from Vincent.
"Yeah, him and the rest are in the dining hall. C'mon, I'll show you." his words were a little fast, a little ramble, like he was in shock. Eve followed him through winding corridors, decorated with dated art and in various states of repair. Vincent turned a left and opened a metal door, revealing a large room with a sky light and several tables of varying sizes. The group was scattered among these, Antonius, Oscar and Viggo at one table, the rest at another. Maria stopped dead in a joke as Vincent herded Eve into the room. Everyone gathered around the largest table, in the center, and sat down. Viggo took a spot next to her in the circular table and Antonius sat across from her.
"If you two would be so kind as to share your story, now would be the time." Antonius said. Viggo nodded, looked at Eve who also nodded. Viggo launched into a long explanation of their journey, beginning in the white building.
"So...we got out, got a ride, and ended up here. With you." Silence fell after Viggo completed the story. Antonius looked at Eve, carefully, as if searching to see metal, to see that she was a robot.
"Can you confirm what Viggo has just told us?"
"Yes."
'The goes for your...identity?"
"Yes. My....true name is simply Error." Eve blushed a little and Antonius nodded.
"You, Eve Wires, deserve to know who we truly are. Our group, or organization, are a large gathering of Mechinas, as the public calls us. We dubbed ourselves the Robotellion. We want robots to become part of the human society, to be ingrained in our lives, to have a chance to live like everyone else. We fully support that. We have had rumors of robots like you Eve, but you are the first. You are anything but an error. You are a hero. And we would like to work with you to save our world." Antonius explained.
"Save? Save our world from what?" Eve blurted out.
"From a double threat. The Solar Ravens, whom you have learned about, and the Moon Reachers .
"But...but...these are just people. People with a different view!"
"Eve, these people are ruthless. The Solar Ravens have slain thousands of people, people regardless of their opinion. You know those disappearances? The Solar Ravens and Moon Reachers. Recurting and slaying, readying for a final battle."
"But...I though the Moon Reachers..." Eve was confused. So confused, caught in a web.
"Eve the Moon Reachers...they aren't what you think they are. They are looking for way to excel the human race, yes, but also believe, firmly, that robots, aliens, even, are higher above us. Like gods. Like the ancient Greek gods. The Solar Ravens are no better- they want to stall us, put us back in time to when things were different. Neither of these paths are a good way to go. Both will lead only to death. We fight to live. For what will come to pass."
"Then way the name?"
"It was a code name. It stuck." Oscar chipped in. His voice was accented...Italian maybe?
"So...you need me why?" Eve was still baffled.
"To show the people that robots can live among us. To prove the Solar Ravens wrong and prove to the Moon Reachers that robots are not gods, or a higher form of life. To be our symbol, our figurehead, our spirit and soul." Thea spoke up.
"To light our way." that was Nigan....was he Native American?
"To prove what is right." Helen, who was obviously Scottish.
"To show-okay, really, we need someone to scrub the toilets." Maria said, smiling. Vincent laughed and Antonius shot them a glare.
"but....why me? Why not re-program some other robot?"
"We don't have the talent." Oscar said, a little sadly.
"So?" Eve changlled.
"Don't you see Eve? You are the perfect one for the job because it was the Solar Ravens who held you....and a branch of Moon Reachers, Engine-Droids, who programmed you. You prove both of them wrong by simply exist-" but Antonius never finished the sentence. Something in the building broke, a hole was made in the eastern wall and through it poured people.
They were dressed in black, with bands of gold encircling their forearms. They all wore a light bullet-proof jacket and some sort of bird-like mask over their faces. It was impossible to tell male from female. They all held a shiny black shock gun.Eve somehow knew these had to be the Solar Ravens.
"Hand over the robot and no one will be hurt." One of them strode out from the crowd, a small cloak of black over their shoulders. It was obvious they were the leader, but even when they spoke it was impossible to tell their gender.
"As if!" Vincent spat loudly. They was a great big click as the guns were cocked, and aimed. Eve knew they had moments, seconds before there would be shock bullets, tiny pellets of pain, flying around them, into their skin, possibly blinding or killing them, ripping through clothing, flesh and skin,maiming-
But nothing happened. In fact, everything went dark. There were some cries of surprise, her wn in the mix, but nobody from the Robotellion had said anything. Eve realized that somehow they had turned out the lights.
Suddenly someone was grabbing her hand, half-dragging her along, footsteps sounding all around them as the Solar Ravens attempted to get the lights on, but somehow they didn't-
"Oh god!" Eve half shouted as the sunlight hit her eyes and she emerged in the city, Nigan holding her hand. He smiled and let go. Viggo came over.
"You alright?"
"Yeah...what happened?" Eve asked.
"I'll explain later. Right now we have to get out of the city."
