~Serenity’s POV~

After who knows how long I spent crying on Dad’s lap, I started to calm down enough to realize that we were the only ones left by mom’s graveside except for the people who worked at the graveyard. I got to the point where I had enough strength to force myself to get up from his lap and start walking. I heard him get up behind me and follow me to the car. We both got in our respective sides and numbly went through the motions of buckling ourselves in and him starting the car.

We drove for a while before either of us spoke, and when we did, it was dad who broke the silence.

“You want to get some food?”

“I’m not hungry,” I replied shyly.

    “Want to just go home?”

I nodded, not feeling like replying verbally. I didn’t want to hurt his feelings, but I just needed to be alone right now. My mind started to go numb as we drove, and I dozed off.

~5 Minutes Later~

~Aizawa POV~

The car was silent for the majority of the ride, but I didn’t mind. I had a lot to fill my thoughts and I almost didn’t realize it when my autopilot driving got us home. As I parked in the driveway, I turned around to find Serenity asleep. I got out of the car and walked around to Serenity’s door. I opened it and unbuckled her, careful not to wake her as I picked her up bridal style and carried her into the house. As I closed the front door behind us, her eyes flickered open, then shut again. I sincerely hope I didn’t wake her.

I made my way up to her room and gently laid her on her bed, momentarily debating on whether or not I should cover her with a blanket. Why am I so bad at caring for another human being? I wondered as I decided that it was definitely cold enough for a blanket and grabbed a light blue one from her window seat, draping it over her sweet, pale form.

Then I left the room, silently closing the door behind me as I made my way downstairs.

I knew that I still needed to make lunch for both her and myself, so I figured that was what I should do next. Busy work may be cheating, but I was going to take advantage of it as well as I could for now. The only question was, what should I make?

My train of thought was cut off as my phone rang and I glared down at it, as though everything I’d been through could be blamed on this single ringing device. Why now, just as I started to make lunch? I asked myself as I fished my phone out of my pocket to check the caller ID. It was Present Mic. Briefly, I considered ignoring the call, but then I thought better of it  as I imagined what that would lead to… yet another headache. It was better to just get it over with now.

I still didn’t have to be happy about it though, so I answered in a rather surly tone, which wasn’t entirely unusual of me, as all of my coworkers know that I despise being annoyed with trivial matters such as phone calls unless there is a reason behind them.

"Hello Mic.”

"Yo, want to hang out buddy? It’s been a while since we’ve done anything together. Well, technically speaking, you have been avoiding m- " he started to say. I cut him off right there.

"No, I have not been avoiding you, for like the millionth time, I have been just really busy with something, so l have not been avoiding yo- "

And now he cut me off. Then again, this is usually how our phone conversations would go, so I’m not going to say that I am surprised. "Well, you’ll have to tell me, given that I don't know what you have been busy with, and you have been keeping secrets, I kn- " Mic continued.
