Later that evening, Kaitlyn was back at the apartment sitting reserved in her chair, not speaking or even looking up at George and Diane. "How was your first day at your new school?" Diane asked to brighten the mood. Kaitlyn broke free from her trance and stared at Diane. She knew that she couldn't tell the truth because she didn't want Diane to worry about her saftey. All Diane wanted was for Kaitlyn to be happy since they moved in. Kaitlyn forced a smile and as soon as the air in her throat came unstuck she choked out "it was fine, everyone was super nice and super helpful. Cafeteria food could be better, but.. what do ya' expect haha," she said with a nervous laugh. "Oh thank Goodness," I've heard rumors that this school wasn't so friendly, but it looks like everything is ok," Diane said with a relieving tone in her voice.
"How do you like your classes?" George said, finally looking up from his paper. "Oh.. they're fine." "Have you made any new friends," "um n- not yet," She said thinking back to the group of boys. "If you dont mind, I think I'm just going to skip the rest of dinner, but thank you," Kaitlyn stuttered as she got up from the table and walked down the hall to her bedroom.
When she walked in she found a sleeping bag, a couple of pillows, a lamp and a box of new shoes. The ones she had now had been ripped and had multiple holes in the sides. "I thought you might like something to start the school year off right," Diane said as she peered around the corner. "Thank you, that's very kind," Kaitlyn replied back with a slight smile.
That night she laid awake and tried to dream of what she wanted tomorrow to be like. But all she could hear in her head was those unsettling words that Ryan said to her. "This isn't over freak"
She tried shacking those disturbing words from her head and tried to dream of one of her fantasies instead. As she lay down on the hard ground, feeling her eyes getting heavier and heavier, slowly drifting off to sleep, she starts to dream..
DREAM SEQUENCE: "Alright everybody, that's it for today. Make sure you turn in your stories by friday." Said Mr.Cameron, the English teacher. "Kaitlyn, wait a minute, I was reading over your story and just wanted to say that I am quite impressed with your imagination, you could become am author one day." "Thanks Mr.Cameron!" She said with an enlighted face. "Could you imagine? One of the worlds greatest authors... NO the GREATEST author of all time! Haha" Kaitlyn said to herself. As she was walking down the stairs, feeling a little bit more confident in herself, all of a sudden, out pops Ryan and his gang. "Where do you think your going," said Ryan. "I, uh," stuttered Kaitlyn. As they cornered her on the 2nd flight of stairs, Justin, one of Ryan's toadies, dove in and missed Kaitlyn. She saw an opening and went for it, but they were to quick. They grabbed her and pinned her against the wall. As she regained consciousness, she heard a slow clap and out from behind them came Mr.Cameron. "You didn't actually think I thought your story was good, right." I mean seriously, look at this junk, makes me throw up just looking at it. You'll never be a good writer, but work hard and you might just pass as an assistant, who knows, maybe even a supervisor one day haha, but right now, you'll do just fine as target practice, finish her off," he said as he snapped his fingers and walked off. "Wait, what?!" Kaitlyn said. "Lights out," Ryan said as he raised his fist.
Kaitlyn woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily as she realized it was just a dream. As the sky began to brighten, thus came day 2 of this nightmare they call high school. "Dear God, please let me avoid them today," she prayed as she walked towards the bus.
