Chapter 5: Back to Insomnia

(Y/N) lost it, kicking at anything available and even at her comrades. The lost of her mother struck a nerve within the (h/c) girl. Prompto subdued his friend with a hug, silently listening to her cries as the rain poured down on them.

"At the start of the attack a giant winged like creature with (f/c) scales appeared out of thin air, fighting against the enemy with all of its strength. Unfortunately the winged like creature was shot down, it's battle being short lived."
Ignis looked up from the newspaper, his eyes holding a confused shine to them as he looked in your direction. "(F/c)?" He asked, all eyes on you.
You looked down, hating the feeling of three sets of eyes on you all at once. "I never met a winged creature in my life..." You muttered, crossing your arms. "But it must be a coincidence that my favorite color is the same color as the scales..."
Silently Noctis took in all the news, shaking his head in despair. "No, wait... hold on!" He shouts, your teary eyes turning to look at him.
"We had no way of knowing!" Ignis shouts back.
Noctis raises an eyebrow. "What-- knowing what!?"
"The signing was last night..." Gladio pipes up.
"But the wedding... Altissia?" The ravenette speaks, voice soft.
Ignis shakes his head. "I know, that was the plan. Yet the reports of the invasion with the mysterious winged creature are all the same. How could every headline in the kingdom be wrong?" He asks.
The Prince scowls, suppressing a growl. "Ugh, lies..."
Prompto frowns sadly. "If only..."
Gladio looks at Ignis. "What else do we know?"
Ignis shakes his head in response, not really knowing what else to say in this situation.
"Then we can't be sure until we see it with our own eyes."
The blonde haired man looked at his hands. "That means we go back to Insomnia."
You finally tear your eyes from Noctis. Wiping the tears away you take a deep breath, trying to calm yourself. You were silently jealous at Ignis's ability to stay so calm in a situation like this. "B-But it might not be face for us there..."
"It might not be safe for us anywhere (Y/N)!" Your best friend snaps at you, without fully meaning to. You press your lips into a thin line and stay silent.
Gladio looks at the quiet Prince. "Turn back?"
Noctis stands up. "Yeah." He answers without hesitation.

The rain beat down on the roof of the car as the drive to the fallen Insomnia was quiet. It was apparent that Noctis was angry, and little growls escaped his lips in tune with him tugging at his shirt sleeve.
With a concerned look you grabbed his hand, pulling it away from his sleeve. "Noct... please calm down. They'll get their revenge soon okay? Believe me, trust me." You whispered, staring him in the eyes.
Noctis blinked, taking the time to think about your words before he sent you a nod. "Okay..."
"I hope everyone's okay..." Prompto hummed, looking out the window.
Noctis scoffs, rolling his eyes. "Lotta good hoping is going to do."
You sent him a slight glare, your eyes changing from (e/c) to yellow before becoming your normal eye color again.
"You must not lose faith," Ignis butts in, still surprisingly calm.
Noctis opens his mouth, growling as he began to argue with the others. At this point you cover your ears, squeezing your eyes tightly with an angry huff. You never really liked conflict between friends like this.
"Look at the size of that thing!"
You cracked an eye open, taking a peek out of the window and seeing a huge flying ship moving towards Insomnia. "Imperial dreadnoughts. They transport soldiers-- namely, the Imperial infantry."
"Up ahead!" Prompto cried, pointing at the scene up ahead.
Ignis softly lets out a hum of annoyance. "They set up an inspection point."
Gladio shrugs. "If the road is blocked, then we'll find another way around."
So that's exactly what you did.

The rain began to fall harder, the five of you staring at Insomnia from your chosen vantage point. Within the silence static fills the air as a voice begins to speak.
"As to the ceasefire discussions between the two nations, all provisional terms have been suspended in light of recent developments."
...
"Moreover, in the wake of news of news of King Regis' death, we now recieved word that Crown Prince Noctis and the Oracle Lunafreya have also been pronounced dead."
A look of shock electrocuted through the air.
"There has also been a small note added to this detail. The winged creature seen during the attack has now been identified as (M/N) (L/N), how she turned into the winged creature is still a mystery."
You blinked, taking steps forward until you were at the edge of the cliff. What... were you? Would you ever truly find out what you were. You continued to stare at Insomnia even when Gladio yelled for Prompto to turn his phone off.
"Don't bother!" Noctis roared, turning around.
You tilted your head down, closing your eyes.
Prompto stopped trying to pick up his phone, which made Ignis pick it up for him. With an angry expression Noctis jabbed a phone number into his phone, putting it to his ear immediately once he heard it ring.
Your friend moves to your side, placing a hand on your shoulder and turning you around. Cupping your chin Prompto tilted your head back up, trying to give you a comfortable smile. "Hey, if you need a shoulder to cry on I'm right here."
You sent Prompto a broken smile, begining to wail as you buried your head into his shoulder - sobbing in tune with the rain.
"H-Hello? Cor? The hell's going on? Outside the city with on way back in! Makes sense!? Are you serious? What about any of this makes sense? The news just told me that I'm dead! Along with my father, Luna and (Y/N)'s mother!" Noctis stopped rambling so he could listen to what Cor had to say, it must of been bad.
"Right..." Noctis finally answers, distraught as he hangs up.
Ignis steps forward. "What did the Marshal... have to say?"
"Said he'd be in Hammerhead." Noctis responded.
Gladio frowns, also stepping forward. "What about the king? Is it true...?"
Noctis says nothing, wiping silent tears off his face.
