My Aunty Rose, wants to buy me a ticket,
She said, go to the embassy.
She arranged a visa for me.
She said, New York real nice,
And America is paradise.
Recession done,
Ah want you to come.
Look, forget about that nation.Refrain
But ah tell she,
Listen Aunt Rose,
I know this dream yo' propose,
Has taken all and sundry,
But Guyana is my country.Look, I wake up on Sunday mornings,
To the sounds of fowl cocks crowing;
And gaze at the sun rising,
Ova the Kanuku mountain.
Yo' say things real nice,
But I can't imagine that life.
Look, no ticket for me,
'Cause I really love my country.Refrain
So, I tell she,
Listen Aunt Rose
I know this dream you propose,
Has taken all and sundry
But Guyana is my country.Under these starry skies, I love to go camping.
Whether sunshining or rain falling,
The cricket game I watching.
You say, America is paradise,
And all that sounds real nice;
But baseball is not cricket.
I need Sarwan down at the wicket.Refrain
So I tell she
Listen Aunt Rose,
I know this dream you propose
Has taken all and sundry
But Guyana is my country.By Candy Benn

Sarwan is a famous West Indian cricketer (batsman) from Guyana.
Many people of the Caribbean, have sought migration for job opportunities. However, I've always felt a great affinity for my homeland. So, some years ago this was my piece, written for Mashramani and placed first in Region 9.
Leave me a comment. Let me me know what you think of this piece.
