It burned. Everything inside the goddamn manor crawled underneath my skin, and burned. The family portraits itched to most. My knuckles throbbed when I spotted his slicked blonde hair and toothy grin. He was a damn bastard.
"We have to go quick." Sadie's eyes flitted back to me, back to my hands.
I clenched my jaw and hid the scars away in the pockets of my jacket. My gaze purposely avoided her, meeting only to glare.
Every room in here looked the same. The furniture was always obnoxious, and the family portraits looked like covers of some shitty family magazine. The expenses of it all made my head throbbed painfully hard. I felt it in my gut, in my bones. I'd never be able to get somethin' like this.
This was how they lived. While the kids at the lot were starving, they drunk ass-flavored champagne and bragged about their shitty children. All while being surrounded by eye candy. Not meant for eating, only to fucking look at.
"You know how to pick locks, right?"
We did, but she only now asked us, once we were in the house, and balls deep into the plan. She's a fucking genius.
"We know how to pick a goddamn lock." She flinched, and Two-pick sent me one hell of a glare.
Why the fuck did he care so much?
"Tch, it's how I got my name," He bragged.
I rolled my eyes. Damn fucker knew this wasn't the time to flirt.
"Well, I hope you're good."
"I am."
We scaled the set of stairs, keeping close to the rails. She paused at the top, peeked, and continued down the halls. Every hall we went down was burnt into my memory, thoughts slowly turned into a map.
Always know where an exit is.
We stopped at a large door, towering above us. A shiny gold-framed knob refused to turn when she tried, and she glanced back at Two-pick. Her body shuffled away once she realized how close I stood to her.
Two-pick popped the toothpick from his mouth, tossed his shaggy hair back, and dipped low to get to work. I took my regular position against the wall.
Sadie, she didn't seem to know what to do with herself. Her hands pulled at her clothes, skin, and hair. Everytime I looked at her, she'd twitch.
Click.
Two-pick stuff the toothpick back into his pocket, and glanced over his shoulder. "I'll watch."
The room was dark. Tiny fragments of slipping sunlight reflected off the plastic.
Plastic?
The furniture was covered in it.
I set foot in the room, and froze when I heard steps behind me. I turned around and she flinched.
"The fuck do you think you're doing?" I demanded
She doesn't hear cussing much. Her fingers flinched when I did, like they wanted to cover her ears.
"I'm looking too."
Unwilling to fight some scrawny chick, I turned back around and took the room in. The space was bigger than three trailer stacked together.
