Luck was never on my side to begin with, but it was my own fault for not hurrying to school when it looked like it was going to rain. My feet slapped against the concrete as I ran when droplets started to fall on my cheek, the cigarette long forgotten as I didn't want any school faculty catching me smoking before entering the school premises.
Cars drove past me as I started to hurry to school, the rain was starting and I didn't want to wait for it to pour any soon. I guess the heavens thought that I was a joke since it started to pour. I took shelter under the school's entrance, I panted as I held onto the wall for support, my vision getting blurry as I bowed my head, catching my breath.
I could feel students walk past me and around me as they entered school, chattering filling my ears alongside empty laughter of each passerby. I straightened myself out as I could breathe better, running a hand through my hair that got messy when I ran. The only good thing I guess was the fact that I didn't get wet that much.
Gripping the strap of my bag, I entered the school's main building.
I could say that my school resembles a hospital with its florescent lights and smell of disinfectant.
Although freshly mopped, the students' shoes caused the floors to be wet from the outside's rain. Since it was just minutes before class starts there were a mob of students flowing through the hallways just arriving to school. I had been in the way when students were walking into school that some had even bumped my shoulders just to get past, it had taken a rough bump for me to stumble before moving to the side to not bother the passerby's, but it had just been because many were glaring at me for standing there like an idiot.
Awkwardly I stood there, trying to look for a familiar face among the bustling students, freshmen too loud for my liking. I started to think that maybe she wouldn't show up to school today but just when I started to grow restless I could make out Mara's blonde hair among the crowd.
You wouldn't miss her, even if her hair didn't catch your attention her smile will, as soon as I see her we lock eyes and a large smile pulls up into her lips.
"Charlotte! Good morning!" I couldn't help but smile, her height barely reached my ears but she was a bundle of energy this early in the morning. The umbrella in her hand had created a line of droplets as she walked towards me, Mara looked pretty as always. Vibrant blonde hair and honey eyes, no wonder boys like her.
She was not only charming but also beautiful.
Would it be bad to be jealous of your friend's looks? If it had been any other girl they would be jealous too.
I smiled at her nonetheless. She grasped my arm as we went through the sea of students getting to class. My eyes drifted around to look for a familiar face when Mara stopped in her tracks to look at me. We had stopped at an area where we wouldn't be a bother to people going by.
Class was about to start.
The small girl crossed her arms, as if she were angry, she was anything but intimidating in her stance. My mind wandered towards a puppy trying to look scary. I focused on her anyway.
"You didn't reply to my texts, are you ignoring me?" She started, her head tilting to the side as her eyes pierced through me. I smiled and shook my head.
"My phone finally gave up on me,"
With that said she dropped her arms, "Oh,"
My phone was nothing but useless. It would die whenever it wanted to, no matter how much battery it still has. It was annoying to have it but I didn't have the money to replace it, it finally gave up Saturday morning when it fell from my nightstand.
