‘No you’re wrong. Even if the lupus lunae did exist the moon goddess wouldn’t have chosen me to save the world. I screw up people’s lives not save them!’

‘You deny what happened here? You deny becoming a gold wolf or shifting back fully dressed in different clothes? You deny the mark of the moon goddess herself on your laurel?’

‘No I’m just saying she made a mistake.’

‘The moon goddess doesn’t make mistakes.’ The old lady said softly. Just the Sandra’s alarm went off telling then it was five o’clock.

‘I have to make breakfast.’ Sandra stated switching off the alarm.

‘Meet me tonight in the clearing in the woods and I will explain more.’ She said and was gone.

‘Wait you didn’t tell me what time.’ Sandra said but it was too late. ‘Well you were quite Selene.’

‘I thought it best you listen without my input.’ She responded while Sandra started cooking.

‘So what do you think should I meet her tonight or do you think she was crazy too?’

‘She wasn’t crazy and you should meet with her tonight.’

‘Ok I’ll meet with her.’ She said but Selene didn’t respond.

Sandra finished cooking at five to six and people started coming in.

‘Oh look it’s the disappointment.’ The beta’s son said again. Like he didn’t see Sandra in the kitchen every morning. At least all Cole ever did was insult her. He was never violent and had never raped her.

The fact he knew she was in there was punctuated by the fact he hadn’t even looked at her.

‘Shame.’ She thought. ‘He has such nice eyes when they’re not glaring. His eyes were grey, almost silver, and he had dark brown hair. You could tell even through his loose clothes he had muscle but not excessively.

‘Eww, Cole. The disappointment was eye raping you! I think you should teach her a lesson.’ Stacy one of the pack sluts whined making Cole snap his head towards Sandra.

When their eyes met everything seemed to freeze. Sandra couldn’t look away from his captivating eyes when Selene whispered ’mate.’

The moment was over too quickly for Sandra when Cole looked away from her to Stacy and smirked.

‘Nah, I’m not surprised she was everybody wants some of this.’ He said gesturing to himself.

Sandra had tears in her eyes when she turned back towards the cooker even though she wasn’t surprised her mate was going to reject her. At least he wasn’t doing it in front of everybody.

‘Come on Cole let’s go have some fun.’ Stacy whispered in his ear so Sandra could hear breaking her heart even more as she was sure he was going to say yes.

‘Stacy I’ve told you before I’m not into you, find someone else.’ He said to Sandra’s surprise.

‘But babe why wait when we know we’re going to be mates.’ She said trying to sound seductive.

‘Actually I’m 100% sure you’re not going to be my mate so leave.’ If people could have steam coming out of their ears Stacy would have. She huffed and stormed out leaving Cole, Sandra and a few others in the kitchen.

Much to Sandra’s surprise Cole stayed in the kitchen until everyone at the pack house had eaten and left. Sandra thought it was so he could formally reject her without anyone knowing she was his mate.

She kept her back to him as she cleaned up the kitchen but he didn’t speak.

‘Sandra look at me.’ He finally said and to avoid being hit she did. It was like earlier. Everything froze and the only thing she could see was his eyes.

‘I wasn’t sure if I was imagining it or not but you’re my mate.’

‘Yes.’ Sandra whispered knowing he could hear her, ‘You can reject me now. I’ll accept it.’ She looked down.

‘Why would I reject you?’ He asked surprise obvious in his voice.

Sandra snapped her head back up to see he was genuinely confused.

‘Because I’m the disappointment. I’m the reason this pack can’t have a true alpha male.’ She said in a cautious tone.

‘You’re not a disappointment. Everyone just calls you that because it’s what the others do. And besides who am I to go against the moon goddess?’

‘Mate of the lupus lunae.’ Sandra muttered to herself but Cole heard.

‘What do you mean mate of the lupus lunae. That’s just a myth?’ He asked confused.

‘I shifted today and it turns out I’m the lupus lunae.’

‘Congratulations on your shift and you’ll have to show me later but whoever told you, you are the lupus lunae is just getting your hopes up.’

‘They weren’t and I’ll prove it if you meet me here tonight.’

‘I’m not letting you out of my sight today, I know what everyone does to you, so just show me when you’re ready.’

‘Ok but not in front of anyone. I don’t want them to know yet.’

‘What about us being mates can they know that?’ He asked concern and… was that fear on his face?

‘Yes they can know if you don’t mind being mated to me.’

‘Why would I mind? You’re beautiful.’ He said and cupped her check. Fireworks exploded where they touched making Sandra shut her eyes and lean into his hand. She opened her eyes and looked at Cole. His eyes really were beautiful. Mesmerised by the sight they started to lean towards each other. Just then the door slammed open.
