‘Oh good, my boy, you’ve finally decided to have a go, leave her in my room when you’re done. I feel like a go today.’ The beta said while leering at Sandra making Cole growl. ‘No need to get possessive son, every unmated male in the pack has had a go. But don’t worry she’s still tight.’ Cole leapt at his dad taking him by surprise and making Sandra scream.
‘DON’T. TALK. ABOUT. MY. MY. MATE. LIKE. THAT.’ He punctuated every word by punching his dad. Seeing the rage on Coles face Sandra knew he wouldn’t stop until his dad was dead.
‘Cole! Stop you’re going to kill him!’ she shouted trying to pull him off of his dad.
‘Sandra he hurt you. He deserves it.’
‘Yes but if anyone has the right to decide it’s me and if you kill him you’ll hate yourself and my parents would probably kick you out of the pack.’ Sandra started to panic at the thought of not being able to see Cole. Seeing Sandra panic made Cole forget about his dad as he rushed to comfort her leaving him unconscious on the kitchen floor. Just then the alpha, luna, gamma and other pack members entered the kitchen. After assessing the situation the alpha spoke.
‘What happened here?’ he said with barely controlled rage.
‘I attacked him for disrespecting my mate, alpha.’ Cole responded to Sandra’s father, Sandra still in his arms. There was an audible gasp through the crowd.
‘This is unacceptable behaviour for a future beta.’ The alpha bristled ‘I expect you to pack and leave immediately.’ There was an even louder gasp from the crowd which was followed by whispering until the alpha directed a steely look at them.
‘Certainly, I’ll just grab mine and Sandra’s belonging and be gone.’
‘Not Sandra’s. She is staying.’
Before Cole could even let out a growl Sandra spoke.
‘If Cole goes I go too. You won’t keep me here without him.’ This was the first time Sandra had stood up to anyone.
‘You have no choice. As your alpha I command you to stay.’ No one from within the pack can ignore the command of someone with a higher rank than themselves.
Sandra however didn’t feel the usual effects of an alpha command.
‘You don’t control me anymore.’ She shifted into her metallic wolf making some of the she-wolves scream. There where awed whispers of ‘lupus lunae’ from the older members making Cole speak up.
‘Yes she is the lupus lunae. Even I found it hard to believe until I saw proof. She has been blessed by the moon goddess to save or destroy our world. There is no one of higher rank than her except the moon goddess herself. Her only equal is her mate.’
‘You lie. The lupus lunae doesn’t exist. It’s just a myth and even if it was real the moon goddess wouldn’t have chosen her. She is a disgrace and unworthy of the title. The alpha laughed making both Cole and Sandra growl. Sandra shifted into her human form, everyone seeing her lupus lunae clothes.
‘You know nothing of the moon goddess. You do not know her mind yet you question her judgement. You are inferior.’ Sandra said in a voice not her own. It was calm yet powerful. Making people bow in respect. Sandra reached up and pressed the wolf on her laurel making her clothes dissolve into her normal ones.
‘Cole and I are leaving together and you will not stop us. I suggest you get the pack healer to the beta.' With that Sandra turned and left the kitchen Cole following close behind.
‘It’s safe to say I believe you’re the lupus lunae now.’ He said trying to make light of the situation.
‘So do I. when the lady told me I thought she was crazy but the way my dad spoke to me was like a lock clicking open and all this rage and power came flooding out. I’m surprised I didn’t attack anyone.’ Cole was about to respond but someone cleared their throat behind them interrupting him. Turning sharply Cole pushed Sandra behind him and got into a protective stance. It was the old lady.
‘I see you’ve found one of your mate. Good you’ll need their help in the choices you’ll have to make.’
‘Wait did you say ‘one of your mates’? What do you mean by ‘one of’? How many mates do I have?’ Sandra questioned.
‘Must you always ask so many questions at once?’ The lady reprimanded. ‘Yes I said ‘one of your mates’ because you have three.’
‘Three?’ Cole spoke up. ‘I have to share Sandra with two other people.’
‘Yes. And you are all important so no fighting with each other.’ She waved a finger at him. ‘Now as you are leaving I shall explain everything before you go.
Lupus Lunae is Latin for wolf of the moon. It has this name as the wolf was chosen by the moon goddess, Selene,-‘
‘Selene? That’s the name of my wolf!’ Sandra interrupted.
‘Don’t interrupt. I’m not surprised at all as you were blessed by the moon goddess. As I was say the wolf is chosen by the moon goddess, Selene to save or destroy our world. As in many religions, the moon goddess has an opposite. The sun god, Helios. Helios is Selene’s brother and many, many years ago they were close. They created the world together. Helios created humans and animals that come out during the day and Selene created werewolves and nocturnal animals. Helios grew jealous of Selene’s wolves as they were bigger, stronger, faster and better at healing than humans. Soon Helios wanted to get rid of werewolves but being the all know god his is he knew a fight between humans and were’s wouldn’t go in his favour. So he bided his time and made a deal with Selene. He would take a wolf of her choosing and put them through a series of tests.
Knowing werewolves were possessive and territorial, especially ones of higher rank, he gave them three mates to fight with each other and break the chosen wolfs heart. Then he sends the thing they are most scared of after them to break their mind. Finally he takes the thing they care about most in order to break their spirit. When all is lost and there is nothing left for them to fight for he sends humans to kill them.
If the Lupus Lunae fails then Selene has to destroy all werewolves.’
