I held my breath for the figure to  disclose its identity as he lifted the lamp to his face.
It was the watchman. I was confused and relieved at the same time. I finally found some strength in my limbs to walk up to him.
He stood still and emotionless as I approached him .Stealing a glance at the silver sprinkled sky behind him, I asked, " What brings you here?"
There was no reply...
I flooded him with questions but the only form response from him, was his existence. Finding nothing better to do , I snatched the lamp from him. As I was heading towards the staircase, I heard him murmuring under his breath, " There was a scream, that I heard , but now everything seems fine so..." .
I ignored him, I ignored my curiosity , I ignored the whirlpool of blackness trying to suffocate me and ran up the stairs.
My movements felt so light , as if I got rid of  the heft of my soul. It was lighter than one could imagine. As I was sprinting up the stair case , I realized...
"I was afraid of the dark, but why is it so pleasant now?"
