CHAPTER FORTY-TWOThere's a Place Where the Lost Things Go

"I need you to give me permission to skip group therapy, today."
IN LIGHT OF recent events, Alaric thought it would be a good idea for everyone involved with Kai Parker and the involuntary trip to his Prison World to work through their trauma. Emma Tig, the school's former counselor, agreed and extended her stay to conduct a type of group therapy session for the teenagers.
Ryan thought the entire thing was ridiculous. He never needed therapy before, and he grew up as a mythical tribrid in a family of Original vampires over a thousand years old. He lived through and witnessed his fair share of violence and heartbreak.
A trip inside a Prison World full of homicidal, supernatural teenagers and a sociopathic Heretic ranked low on his list of concerns.
It was just another day in the life of Ryan Mikaelson.
So, why did that warrant a day of forced therapy by his headmaster and a former, boarding school counselor?
"Why would I do that?" the voice of his mother, Raylynn Montgomery-Mikaelson, filtered through the phone held to his ear. "You weren't even gonna tell me you have a sister, let alone was forced into a Prison World by one of your classmates. I had to hear about it from Caroline, Ryan."
Ryan winced. He knew telling Davina and Kol about the Japanese, Black Magic purge spell that could return their memories of Hope would come back to bite him. Of course they would inform his parents about his latest escapades. And of course his mother would perform the spell so she and his father could remember his only sister.
He was just lucky they didn't hop on a plane and storm the school in pure Mikaelson fashion. He doubt the place would be left standing.
Ryan sighed heavily, running a hand through his dirty blond curls. A late winter breeze slipped through his window, chilling his body as he perched on the cushioned seat beneath the open glass. "I was going to tell you, okay? Besides, I didn't even know Caroline knew about anything."
Raylynn scoffed. "You thought Caroline wasn't gonna find out her daughters and their father were sucked into a Prison World that contained their murderous uncle? She figured it out, called me, and here we are."
Ryan's head dropped against the wall at his back. "Come on, Mom. It wasn't even that bad."
"Your friend shattered a mora miserium and was consumed by Black Magic." Raylynn groaned. "You get your observation skills from your father."
