CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

Screw Endgame

___________________

WITH THE SALTZMAN twins unconscious and out of commission, Ryan and Hope were left to clean up the mess they made in the middle of Town Square. Hope brought it upon herself to take Landon to the outskirts of town, so he could resurrect in a ball of flames without prying eyes. Afterward, she returned to the Mystic Falls High to help Alaric bury Kurutta's dead body.

Ryan assisted Josie and Lizzie back to the Salvatore School. Both of them were weakened by the immense amount of dark magic Josie used and the Oni that possessed Lizzie, which meant they would need several hours to recuperate, if not a few days.

Later that night, Ryan tried to get as much sleep as he possibly could. Come morning, he would have to deal with campus-wide preparations for the upcoming 80s Decade Dance. It seemed like an event transpired every week, or even multiple events in one week, considering Commonwealth Day would take place the next day.

Ryan shifted atop his mattress in the darkness of his dorm room. A fan across from his bed blew a yet of cool air in his direction, helping control his body temperature as he slept. He tended to grow hot, no matter how cold he made the room.

The reverberation of a loud bang forced Ryan to wake up long before sunrise. He jolted against his pillow, pushing himself to sit on his sheets. His attention snapped to where the sound originated. The door to his dorm room stood wide open, having been blasted in by the person on its threshold.

"What the complete and total hell, Lizzie?" Ryan all but shouted at the sight of the girl.

Lizzie strode into the room dressed in a set of pajamas. "I know what you've been hiding, Connor Ryan Mikaelson," she exclaimed as she came to a stop beside his bed.

Ryan rolled his eyes and flopped back onto his bed, shoving his face into his pillow. "I've had enough with Saltzmans accusing me of things. Go away, Lizzie. I want sleep."

"Oh, I see. You can hide the existence of your sister from us, but far be it for someone to accuse you of doing something you've actually done," Lizzie quipped.

Ryan scoffed. "Yeah, yeah. I've done – wait," he rolled over and resumed his sitting previous position, "what did you just say?"

Lizzie released a huff and pointed at him. "Oh, you heard me. Your sister. You know, Hope Andrea Mikaelson. The one who swan dived into the Malivore pit."

Ryan simply blinked. "How – how do you remember?"

"After Josie blasted me with the Black Magic, she popped back into my messed-up head like some cinematic, flashback sequence," Lizzie told him, before her gaze narrowed. "Care to explain why the two of you decided to withhold such a colossal secret?"
