When the reached the school building, Komui came to walk beside the taller demon. “How long can the netting hold him?” He asked looking at the white-haired teen. Their eyes followed the boy.
Mouth slightly open, Allen was looking at his new home. It was pretty impressive. Built at the turn of the century, it looked gothic. The towers and gargoyles rested on the dark grey roof. Bars covered the lower windows, mainly for the safety of any human that might wander in past the spells that guarded the place.
The main building held the offices. It looked like an eighteenth century manor house. This was where the Lee's lived, on paper any way. Lavi was sure there were many secrets hidden in those walls. This was the building with the gargoyles. Behind it was a more modern building.
It was a two story light tan building. This was where classes were held. If anyone walked into it, it would simply look like any other school. Classrooms, labs, gym, lunch room, the works. They had a pool and auditorium as well.
The last building, nestled in the back of the lot hidden in the trees sat what was really the main building. The trees hide it from the school. The magic used to keep the building secret was phenomenal. Many humans would only see a forest or at best ruins of an old building. Those who weren’t all human saw the truth.
It was old, like the front building. At one point, Lavi was sure it used to be a church. It was huge. He also knew that there was more to this building than what the eye saw. This part was mostly the dorm rooms for the non human creatures that attended the school. Underneath was a different story.
That was where the real labs where hidden. The science department was always up to trying new things with the students abilities, or give them better fighting weapons. They tried to build things to keep them safe as well. It also housed the school guardian. A celestial spirit that chose to help mankind in the fall, Lucifer's fall. Helveska protected the students and humans that may wander onto the grounds.
Allen just took this in with huge eyes and an open mouth that Lavi was sure he saw something fly into. Turning his attention back to Komui he answered him. “Until my magic wears down or I lose consciousness.” He stated. “Typically demons will find a place to keep the human so they can sleep.” He added as Komui's first response was only to grip his own chin between his thumb and finger.
“So, we only have until you are to tired to maintain the netting to find him something else that can stabilize him?” he muttered more to himself than the demon at his side.
“That's right.” Lavi agreed.
“How close must you be to maintain the netting?” Lavi rubbed at the back of his head.
“Fifty feet or so.” He answered. “This isn't something I did a lot.” He told the alchemist. Komui nodded lost in thought.
They walked inside. Komui asked for Lavi to escort Allen to the basement lab. Together they went through the tunnels until they reached the lift. “Can I…” the lanky demon began, but Komui was already at the controls. Lavi sat on the ground pointing for Allen to do the same.
The boy wasn’t fast enough. The force of the lift shifting plummeted him into the steel grating of the floor. “Just hold on!” Lavi cried over the roaring wind. The lift slows, but didn’t stop. It then took a severe ninety degree turn and speed up along another path before plummeted to a quick and unexpected halt.
Lavi managed to catch Allen as he nearly slid off of the metal floor. He helped the shaken boy stand up. “Komui's not the best driver of this thing.” He whispered into the younger boys ear. They followed the alchemist off of the platform.
Helveska rose before them her blue/what monstrous form wavering in a slight breeze. Komui told her the situation. Her enlarged face came to study Allen.
“Hello, Allen Walker. The fates talk of you, the ender of time.” She breathed out.
“What's that suppose to mean?” Lavi cried out. “I swear you are worse than fortune cookies!” he yelled at her. She chuckled as she acknowledged the teen.
“Ah, Lavi. Do not fret, for you will have a hand in the boys future. As for now…” as her voice faded away something glowed within her near transparent body. It was circular in shape. It grew were her heart should be. Wings flapped at the sides.
Helveska turned to the trio before her. The round winged thing burst from her chest. It beeped and buzzed at her before zooming to sniff at Allen. He laughed at it. Holding his hands out as if he could understand the noises coming from the creature.
“Timcampy, it is very nice to meet you.” He smiled at the round golden ball in his hand.
“As long as Tim is by your side, he can control the shifts your body will go through. You will learn to work together to keep yourself in which ever shift you want to be. Timcampy can also assist with transforming you to another state, if you find yourself stuck as a phantom.” Helveska explained. “He will grow as your abilities grow. He will change to become what it is you may need as you learn your abilities.” She continued.
“Lavi, remove your netting. Allow Timcampy to merge with his host.” Her whispered voice commanded.
Lavi turned with a flick of his hand the netting around Allen vanished. The taller teen stumbled slightly. A strong hand caught him to keep him from falling of the platform. “Thanks Helveska, I didn’t realize how exhausted I was becoming.” He told the celestial spirit.
“Komui's driving had nothing to do with your weakened state?” she asked. The slight vibrations in her tone could only be a chuckling laugh. Lavi grinned.
“Now, I didn’t say that.” The pair chuckled softly. Good thing for them, Komui was more interested in the creation that was Timcampy, and at finally being able to shake his young masters hand.
The three said a final goodbye to the spirit. They walked back toward the lift. Lavi used up more of his dwindling magic to stay ahead of the other two. He got to the controls before Komui could. This didn’t seem to phase the chief. He was to engrossed in a conversation with Allen. The boy appeared to be translating for the golden orb now resting on his head.
Lavi expertly and quite smoothly pulled the platform from its docking bay. With sure steady hands he drove the lift back along their route. The two passengers didn’t even realize they were moving as Lavi was experienced with the safe smooth operation of the lift.
In fact once they were docked back at the main level he had to physically guide the other two off of the platform. “Have we moved? Huh? Lavi you amaze me.” Komui said as Allen yawned hugely.
“Chief I believe it has been a very long day for our new found friend.” He indicated the pale boy’s appearance of almost being asleep where he stood.
“I think you are correct. Please take him to his room.” Komui didn’t wait for them to leave, he glided off down another hall. Lavi chuckled to himself.
“Come on, unfortunately we have to walk to the top of this place.” Allen sighed.
“Well at least we don't have to haul my bags.” He smirked. Lavi chuckled agreeing. He lead the way as they moved through the tunnels up to the main floor of the building. It was here in the scant light that he saw a soft glowing dot on Timcampy. When he asked Allen about it the boy answered that the ball was creating a map of the place.
“Which is really useful to me, since I get lost in the shower!” he joked.
“Not me. It's like I have radar or something. I always know where I am. Demon radar.” He chuckled at his own joke. Allen gave him an eye crinkling grin that ended in a whole mouth wide yawn.
“We're almost there.” Lavi reassured him once he was done yawning himself. Allen nodded in sleepy thanks.
They walked up the three flights of stairs, down the short hall to the doors at the end. Pointing Lavi indicated where Kanda's room was. “Never go in there if you value your life and sanity.” He warned. He opened Allen's door. His things sit in their trunks.
“My room is right over here.” He pointed. “Its open any time, if ever you need anything.” They both yawned once more stated their good nights. Lavi told the boy he would come get him for breakfast. With a last thank you they separated.
Lavi stumbled through his books, surprisingly not knocking over a single stack, as he fell onto his bed. It had been a long time since he slept all night long. A loud banging on his door the next morning woke him.
Groaning he disentangled himself from the blankets. “Who is it?” He groggily muttered.
“Lavi its Allen. I’m really sorry but I don’t know where the cafeteria is and I’m really hungry.” He sounded scared to be standing outside the boys room. Managing to get to the door without killing himself on any of the books, the tall lanky teen opened it. He was holding Timcampy in his arms. Cheeks slightly redder than usual, he gave a sheepish smile.
“Hey don’t worry!” Lavi grinned. “I don’t usually sleep so much but it’s been awhile since I have used so much power. Let me get presentable and I will take you to eat. Five minutes.” He held up all the fingers on one hand before closing the door.
The pirate looking teen rushed out of his clothing. Not having time to shower he just washed his pits and privies slapping on deodorant. A quick comb through his normally messy hair and he was searching for something clean to wear. Yanking on tight white pants, knee high reddish brown boots and a blank tank top under a maroon button- up he finished off his look with a green bandana over his hair.
Exactly five minutes later he was back in the hall next to Allen. Dropping his arm around him, he laughed. “Just stick with me and you won't go wrong!” Lavi teased.
“Until he ends up in detention with you.” Alma called as he slid down the banister past him.
“How many dress code violations do you have now?” Miranda asked slipping by.
“Or the demerits for putting banana peels on the teacher’s chairs?” Daisya snickered from behind them.
“Oh, let's not forget the time he “accidently" got stuck under General Cross' robes.” Krory called out. The entire staircase was laughing as the two teens found themselves surrounded by their classmates.
“Just shut up. At least he can do all of that and still have the highest-grade point average in the class!” Kanda bellowed out. The corridor quieted.
“Stupid rabbit.” The Jinn muttered as he passed them. There was a very tiny smirk to the dark man’s lip that Lavi caught. He chuckled to himself.
In the cafeteria Allen was told he could eat anything he wanted. He didn’t have to pay for it. But he only had an hour to eat and get to class. He piled four trays up and sat at the very end of their table gobbling it all down. Most of the others had stopped eating just to watch.
The end result was that almost the entire class was late to first period.
