Ending (Kanda's POV)

Stumbling back from the fully enraged demon I gaped at the thing in our midst’s. There was no sign of the stupid rabbit in that twisted and tortured face.  His demon eye swiveled around in its socket. Who knew what he was looking at.
Claws tore at the garment Malcom was wearing. He barely was able to pull the poor boy beside him into the line of danger. Wings snapped out from Lavi's back as he roared up into the air. The child, the girl he had seen, the reanimated corpse of his beloved sister moved to fight him. That was one thing I was not going to let happen.
Mugen sang as I unleashed her. The ringing of steel settling my nerves as I elbowed the demon out of the way. Her claws racked along my steel. The howl of pain I expected to come, didn’t. She had no feelings any longer. I would end this quickly. Maybe with her dead again, we could regain control of the poor trickster demon.
With a scream I brought the blade down toward her head. Lavi's arm caught it. “She isn’t alive!” I yelled at him. He growled. His other hand, talons as dark as the blackest soul were around the girls throat.
“Lavi, you won't ever recover if you do this!” I pleaded with him. He flung me aside like a ragdoll. I rolled toward the edge of the walkway. I needed to catch myself or I would fall into the abyss that Helveska kept open.
No sooner had the thought taken hold when I felt arms wrap around my torso. I was being lifted up, by thin air. Timcampy flew near by. Allen. I had forgotten the quiet ghost boy.
“Distract Lavi. Let it be me that ends her suffering.” I told the invisible force.
“Make it fast.” The disembodied voice told me. I felt the arms leave me as I was dropped about a foot to the floor. I kept my balance and sprang toward the girl as Lavi's head swung in the other direction. He went for Allen.
The girl used what little pieces of her brain was left to disengage the claws from her neck. She began to fall. Lavi screamed turning back towards her. My blade met her neck as we both plummeted toward the ground. Her body landed on the edge of the platform. Just as my feet hit the walkway again, I saw her pale head fly out over the railing. It was gone in the blink of an eye.
Lavi screamed once more. He looked like he was going to go for the head. “Malcom is escaping!” I yelled. He was between me and the thing that had done this to an innocent child. The demon changed course.
I went to back Komui up as he stood fending off the third guard with nothing but his clipboard. Bak was on the ground bleeding from a head wound. Foe was standing over him protectively as she fought the guard Lavi had sliced open. It hadn't been enough to kill it.
I was thinking that beheading them maybe the only way to end their tortured existence. I swooped down beside Komui. Snagging a handful of his lab coat I pulled him behind me. Swinging Mugen up I blocked the thing's weapon, some sort of pipe.  It didn’t howl in frustration or in anyway indicate it even noticed the change in battle personnel it was fighting.
Swinging Mugen around I gripped the handle with both hands. Dropping as if I was going to sweep his legs out from under him, he jumped. I sprang forward at the same moment. My sword tasted his flesh, but not his neck. He had leapt higher that I thought he could. He didn’t go free, however.
Foe met him near the high celling in the lab. She had some sort of weaponized arm bands. One slice of each and the head was freed from the body. Both pieces of the remains fell far of the lift ramp or the walkway. Two guards down. I searched the area where Foe had been fighting the last guard. A headless body laid there, its empty neck pointing out over the abyss. We were clear of the guards.
Allen reappeared with Timcampy in his arms. He stood silent in a clean spot on the floor. All around him was red. He looked like a lost boy at the carnival. As I turned to search for Malcom, a hand came up from under the walkway. The Central agency’s ambassador pulled himself up over the edge. He was only about three feet from the phantom.
“Bean sprout move!” I yelled. He glanced up toward me. No! I saw Malcom rising up behind him. A bloody hand was reaching out to grab the boy.
Several things happened all at the same time to just blow my mind. Allen must have seen the horror in my face, he turned to see Malcom behind him. He vanished where he stood. I saw no foot prints appear in the blood around him, could he make those disappear too? I wasn't sure, but Timcampy could fly maybe the little ball golem got the boy out of harms way.
Next thing I saw was Komui and Bak rushing toward Malcom. What was their plan? Were they going to try and confine him? Komui was no fighter, Lenalee was the aggressor in that family. I didn’t hesitate, I swooped down to join them. We didn’t stand a chance.
All off this happened in seconds. Malcom was still reaching out for Allen as we ran toward him. I don’t think he even saw us coming. From somewhere over heard a loud screeching sound could be heard. As a Jinn, this was a sound I was more than familiar with. The death cry of a demon. It meant they were in bloodlust. Nothing could pull them back or even try to stop them in this stage. They would slice apart their best friend and not even know it. Lavi had gone completely over to the dark side. I had only one course of action now.
Nothing in me bothered to care what happened to Malcom Lvellie, my headmaster was in danger of becoming mincemeat by one of his students, one of my friends. I couldn’t let that happen. No matter how much I tried to despise the stupid rabbit he had become a person I could trust and rely on. I wasn’t going to let his life fall apart if he killed the wrong person.
I jumped. Landing on top of Komui I shoved the mad alchemist to the ground. My foot kicked out sending Bak, over the edge. Shit. I yelled for Komui to stay as I tried to catch the falling chief. I needn’t have worried.
Helveska was a friendly spirit. She caught the man carefully in her hand. Gentle she scooped up Komui and I as well. Pulling us all up to her eye level and away from the rampaging demon.
“You will be safe here.” Her voice soothed us. Allen climbed up from somewhere else on the Celestial spirit. She must have seen the very thing I did and saved the boy. “Lavi will need you all to bring him back from this.” She said.
From where we sat we watched the crazed demon swoop down. He was toying with his prey. Slicing his Achilles tendon so he couldn’t escape again. Then flying back up to screech at the man. He came back to claw a piece of his flesh away. Something about this whole attack was off to me.
Although Lavi was definitely in blood lust rage, it was controlled. Most demons would just tear the prey to shreds in seconds. Lavi was taking his time. He was making sure Malcom felt every slice, every chunk of his flesh being ripped away, and letting him know just who, or what was doing it.
He came down again and again. Each time ripping chunks of flesh from the man. As Lavi flew away, Malcom would scream out in pain. The screeching of the demon was beginning to sound more like laughter. After awhile there wasn’t much left of Malcom, but he was still alive.
“End this, you stupid rabbit!” I screamed. I swore he nodded at me. Once more the demon flew down. This time he ripped Malcom's head away from the body. Blood spurted out. Surprisingly not much. I was sure it was due to all the other blood loss. Screaming triumphantly, demon Lavi dropped kicked the head over Helveska.
Going back once more I saw the flames come out of his mouth. Demon fire was the hottest of any flame. Demons lived and bathed in hell fire. His breath flames spewed out. They disintegrated all of the corpses on the walkway. All but two. Lavi landed beside his sister’s headless body.
The agonizing cry that came from his tortured twisted face was enough to make even the coldest heart ache. He crying as he held the body in his arms. Kneeling on the metal walkway he let-out all of his anguish that has over come him once more.
When he was done he laid the body gently down. With a careful flame he breathed it over her, destroying any chance that her body would be used for any future experiments. When it was dissolved Lavi threw his head back letting out a long loud wail. I watched the whites of his eyes roll over. He collapsed on the walkway. No one moved until the demon form dissolved back into human.
We scurried down to check on him. He was breathing. “Why don’t you all take him up to the infirmary. Bak and I will tend to the rest.” I nodded.
Carefully I lifted the boys tall frame into my arms. Allen lead the way to the lift. We stood gazing at the controls. The short stack raised worried eyes to me. “I don’t know what to do.” He said. Just then Foe stalked on board. She was nearly as good as Lavi navigating through the mountain of tunnels. She brought us out on the same level as the infirmary. I took Lavi to the head nurse. We didn’t see him for two days.
After leaving Lavi with the nurse, Allen and I were summoned to Komui's office. I heard the bean sprouts stomach growl on the way. Tsking I suggested we swing by Jerry's and see if Allen's lunch was ready. This gifted me with one of his wide smiles. With a soft che I looked away, inwardly pleased I had made him happy. Of course the master chef was ready. He also had foods made up for myself, Komui, Bak and Foe. Allen happily pushed his cart along the hall while one of the other cooks helped by pushing the other. We ate lunch while listening to a lecture by Komui.
He wanted us to make sure we laid all the blame for what happened on Malcom.
“Well it was his fault.” I said. Komui tsked me, I glared at him. Lavi was only defending himself. He told me. Allen and I agreed to everything. We were given the rest of the day off from school.
We tried to get into see Lavi but the nurse wouldn't let us. Instead we went to our separate rooms.  Not one to just lay about I took the time to do some extra training. Two days later a few things happened.
First thing in the morning, Johnny came to tell us Lavi was awake. Allen and I quickly finished our breakfast to head down and see the demon. The other thing was Komui stopping us on the way. A new officer from Central would be coming to investigate the whole Malcom matter. We assured him we knew our story.
Lavi was sitting up in bed. Eye patch on, fingerless gloves in place and that huge Lavi smile I hadn't realized I missed until I hadn’t seen it in a few days.
Allen matched the ear to ear grin. “How are you doing?” he asked. Lavi ran a hand through his messed up hair.
“I’m doing well.”
“Do you remember much of what happened?” Allen asked. Lavi turned that pain filled eye to lock with mine. Yes he remembered every single detail of what he had done. After a split second of seeing that his smile flashed once more for Allen.
“Not after seeing Leila.” He lied smoothly. Looks like Komui had a talk with him first. He wasn’t even going to come clean to us. Then again the walls could have ears.
In the end Malcom's death was labeled an accident. The school was able to remain open and Lavi went back to being the demonic trickster we all loved to hate. My life was normal once more.
