A/N: John is missing here again, but you'll get a whole lot of Sophia's and John's POV's in the not-too-distant future, I promise. I didn't like "Ellie's" posture in that picture taken by "Aaron" in the boat before, so blurred out her face in a old I'm sick and have nothing better to do than listen to music and take selfies on my laptop :)

Ellie's POV

One minute they told me I have a life-threatening condition, and the next minute, I wake up in a cramped hospital bed staring at a stark white ceiling and gray walls. I look up and see an empty bag of packed red blood cells hanging over my head, and a bag of normal saline solution as well. I can see the IV's in both arms, and am aware of the cold of the fluid being pumped into me. I try to adjust in the uncomfortable hospital bed, and feel something hanging from my right lower quadrant.

Wow, they had to put a drain in me. I examine it and see the small bulb filled up with clear but red liquid. It takes me a minute to understand that I am alive, and that some very bad shit just happened.

When the chipper OB/GYN NP told me cheerily that the uterine ablation should take care of birth control for me for life, it seems both of use forgot that I was pre-menopausal and therefore, still ovulating. So a tubal pregnancy was a possibility. I'm a medical professional for Christ's Sake. How could I be so stupid?

I also see the Morphine bag and IV antibiotics. I'm really hooked up. "Oh, hi sweetie, you're awake! How are you feeling?" a very nice nurse says, approaching the bed.

"I'm better, I guess the surgery went OK? I don't remember a thing.." "You're not supposed to remember anything dear," she replies. "But yes, the doctor says your recovery should be uneventful. He will come to talk to you in a bit. In the meantime, would you like to try to take some clear liquids? Like some ginger ale or Jell-O?" I nod reluctantly. She pauses, "I'll give you some Zofran before to make sure you don't vomit and we'll see from there, right?"

"Oh, and your Morphine is what's called a PCA, or Patient Controlled Analgesia (duh, I think to myself). So if you're in pain, just press the button, and no problem! If you get 'locked out', just inform one of us and we'll talk to the doctor and we'll change the dose. "Thank you, you've been very kind," I say. "You're so welcome, I'll be right back with your ginger ale and Jell-O."

While I'm waiting for her, the doctor I met before in the ER comes in with another figure in a white coat. "Hello, Eleanor, I'm Dr. Rodriguez, I don't know if you remember me. This is my PA, Jennifer, and she assisted me with your operation," he says.

"Yes, I do remember you, Dr. Rodriguez. I apologize for my behavior in the ER," which I remember vaguely consists of cursing at him. "It's OK, you were very ill," he replies. "I am glad you are feeling better. And glad we were able to help you"

"We were able to remove the ectopic pregnancy and there was no sign of any infection." He pauses. "However, part of the pregnancy, the placenta, had invaded into your right ovary and through the fallopian tube. So unfortunately, we had to remove your right ovary and entire right fallopian tube. And there was a small fluid collection, so we had to put a small drain in as you can see. I'm glad you came in when you did. Had this been allowed to go on longer, the fetal tissue could have invaded into your colon and you could have become septic."

"So, you're on antibiotics just as a preventive measure until you are discharged from the hospital. I think if you're walking about, urinating normally, and on little to no Morphine, we can discharge you with a little bit of pain meds on Monday morning at the latest." The nurse drops the ginger ale and Jell-O off on a tray.

"Thank you Dr. Rodriguez and Jennifer," I say, "you have no idea how grateful I am to you for your help." "You're very welcome, Dr. Ellie," the doctor says with a warm smile. "And you are very lucky to be here in recovery. Speaking of your being lucky, I have some people outside who would like to see you. It's past visiting hours, so it will be a quick visit. But do you feel up to.."
