chapter four: the twins

~Hunter~
I left the room that Asta was in and went to the front door.
I opened it to reveal two figures.
"Beartrix, Mariah what a pleasant surprise", I said sarcastically.
"Hunter, how are you?", beartrix said the words falling from her tongue causing a shiver to run up my spine.
"I'm great thank you", I said willing a mask of boredom onto my face.
"Are we just gonna stand here or are you gonna invite us inside", she spat the words at me.
I smiled and motioned them to come in.
Beartrix and Mariah were twins they looked similar from the way there hair sat around their horns and the deathly look in their eyes but that was where the similarities stoped.
Beartrix was cruel and was the ultimate predator, everyone knew not to get on her bad side.
Whereas Mariah was soft and kind hearted hardly ever speaking a bad word or hurting a soul.
"We smell your guest Hunter, tell her to come out and join us", she said a sly smile curving on her lips.
I hesitated what would Beartrix do to Asta I thought.
I looked to Mariah and she gave me an apologetic smile, I smiled back to her.
"Come on out dear we won't bite", Beartrix said loudly in a way that suggested otherwise.

~Asta~
The way the woman spoke reminded me of a viper and a shiver ran down my spine.
"Come on out dear we won't bite" she said and I instantly checked that all of my mental shields were in place.
After reinforcing my mental shields I crawled out from under the bed and went to the kitchen.
As I entered the kitchen a squealing sound hit the air and I was being held in a big hug.
The women stepped back and I instantly smiled.
"Asta is that you?", they asked simultaneously.
"Mariah, Beartrix how are you, I haven't seen you guys since I left two years ago", I said tears brimming in my eyes.
I looked over at Hunter and his face showed pure bewilderment and shock.
"Beartrix just hugged someone", he muttered to himself in disbelief.
Beartrix, Mariah and I burst out laughing.
"Asta did you drug my eggs because I swear I just saw Beartrix hug someone and laugh in the span of a few seconds?", he said his eyes darting between the three of us.
Suddenly Mikayla appeared and looked at us.
"Why the hell is Beartrix laughing?", she said looking confused.
"You see this too? So Asta didn't drug my eggs?", said Hunter looking as confused as Mikayla.
Beartrix brushed off there comments and turned to me with a concerned look on her face.
"How did you come to be with these two idiots and why do I smell Hunter on yo....oh", she said in a grossed out way.
I blushed in embarrassment.
"We're mates", Hunter said with with a proud look on his face.
I looked over to Mariah who had hardly spoken at all, not that I was surprised she was always the quiet twin, and she was grinning from ear to ear.
"It's a long story", I said to Beartrix She gave me a look that said 'we are immortals we have nothing but time' so I motioned for them to sit and started from the very beginning of when I left them two years ago.
