Charlotte POV

I opened my eyes slowly, looking around me in confusion.

Every thing was different. I was in a hospital, but the colors weren't blue, but white. Everything was white.

I was sitting in a chair and I could feel something holding my hand, but when I looked, I saw nothing there.

I heard screaming to my side and turned my head, only to stand up with wide eyes when I saw my mother.

She was cooing down at a small bundle in her arms, sitting on the windowsill.

"Mom?" I asked, but no answer came.

The door opened behind me and I spun around, facing a man I didn't know.

Mom inhaled sharply, holding the bundle protectively, which I assumed was a baby.

What was going on?

"What do you want?" She asked, fear coating her voice as she stated at the man in front of me.

He smiled, a cruel, sick smile.

"I just came to see my grandchildren, or is it they're not mine? Like Josh claimed you cheated on him?" He said, frowning now.

"I don't know who's they are." Mom's voice shook with fear, and I could hear the lying tone under her voice, something only I knew about now.

"You're lying. You really are a horrible liar, Rose. What happened that day in the palace?" He asked again, a tone in his voice I didn't like.

"I-I do-don't know." Mom's voice shook with tears now and I turned back to her to see tears streaming down her face.

The man, who I now assumed Josh's father, stalked forward and gripped my mother's arm tightly just as she sat the small baby down on the bed.

She whimpered, staring up at him in fear and anger.

"Fine." He said, releasing her and walked over to the small bundle on the bed, picking the now crying child up. "I guess that you'll have to figure it out or else you won't see Charlotte again."

Mom screamed just as he disappeared into thin air.

She fell to the ground, screaming and crying as nurses rushed into the room to see what was going on.

"He took her from me! He took my baby!" She screamed as a doctor approached the other two children on the windowsill.

I looked down at my hands when they started feeling weird, only to see them disappearing along with the rest of me.

And the scene rippled around me, quickly becoming a bright and sunny day driving on a road.

I was sitting between two small children, Alyssa and Joey, about a year old, who were pointing out the window and making baby noises.

Mom looked back at the two, a sad smile on her face, bags under her eyes and her hair a mess.

She looked horrible.

She turned back to the road and pulled onto a dirt road and into the forest.

She drove for about ten minutes before stopping at the entrance if a small meadow.

"Your daddy used to bring me here when I was just a baby." She said, smiling as she pulled out Alyssa and Joey's cars seats before placing them in a stroller.

"I barely remembered it until I saw him come here one day." She said to herself. "This is where I come to see him."

She smiled. A little more life showing in her expression.

She took out a picnic basket out of the trunk before walking to the three huge willow trees in the middle of the meadow.

"How did this one get here?" She said, staring in wonder at the largest tree and pressing her palm against it. "It wasn't ever here before. Odd."

I looked up at the tree, only to come face-to-face with dad, who winked at me before jumping down from the tree.

He stood in front of mom, placing a hand on hers and causing her to jump slightly before a smile came to her face.

Dad looked transparent, you could actually see through him like a ghost. But when he touched mom's hand, you could see him more clearly, as if he was actually standing there in front of you.

Mom brought her hands up, cupping her face in her hands and staring at him in awe.

"You did it. How?" She asked.

"I didn't." He said, looking at me quickly before looking back at her.

I frowned in confusion.

He can see me and she can't?

"Who did?" She asked, tracing his features with her hands.

"Charlotte did." He said simply.

At that, tears came to mom's eyes and she went to step back, but dad held her hand to his face.

"If you let go, I won't be able to come back for awhile. It only works when we're touching." He said sadly, but happy nonetheless.

"What do you mean Charlotte is doing this? Josh's father took her." Mom said sadly.

"In sixteen years. Her presence is here, making the magic in the clearing stronger. So you can see me."

"Is that why you keep looking behind me?" She asked, turning her head to the side slightly as if to look at me, only to look straight through me.

Dad motioned me to come over to him, and I did, though it wasn't my intention.

"Do I get her back?" Mom asked, turning back to face dad just as my hand touched his.

"Ask her." He said, smiling from ear to ear now.

Mom frowned in confusion, looking at our combined hands. Her gaze traveled up my arms before it rested on my face.

She stared at me with wide eyes, inhaling sharply.

It seemed as though my mouth was glued shut, so I couldn't speak.

"Do I get you back?" She asked, frowning now, "Do I get either of you back?"

She was close to tears now and dad looked at me, not knowing the answer himself.

I nodded at mom and both their faces lit up in wide smiles.

"How are you here?" mom asked.

"I don't know. But I think it's my witch." I said, the words falling out on their own.

Mom looked down at my hands as they started to disappear.

"But I can't be here anymore." I said as I let go of dads hand.

He looked at mom, serious now.

"If I am or not back by they're eighteenth birthday, come back here with all three of them and write their names on each tree. Charlotte on the largest. Alyssa on the smallest. You will see why. And if I do come back, remind me to do it, I may forget." He called as he started to disappear just as the scene rippled around me.

And I was in my room, at the age of five.

But I didn't expect what I saw.
