Chapter 4

"He sent a letter saying that he'd be back on the twentieth." Cassie answered. Unfortunately, Remus had insisted that she still go to her therapist while he was gone. They knew why she was having blackouts, yet he still wanted her to go to therapy. She would never understand him.

"That's good. Do you miss him?" Dr. Martin asked her. She shrugged, feeling awkward talking to him about this.

"I guess." Cassie answered. She always thought of Dr. Martin as a creep and she never wanted to come, though Remus made her. But, even though she would never admit it, she did like talking to him.

"That's normal. How are you blackouts? Have you had any since the hospital?" Dr. Martin crossed his arm over his clipboard.

"I haven't had any blackouts since then. It's been really good, actually." Cassie's voice was proud and she held her head slightly higher, making Dr. Martin aware of how good she felt without these blackouts. She, to him, seemed happier. Despite her boyfriend being out of the country for almost a month, now.

"That's great. We're making progress." Dr. Martin noted something else down on his clipboard. but was not able to finish as someone entered the room.

"Dr. Martin, the police are here. They said that it's urgent." The receptionist, Martha, told Dr. Martin, ignoring Cassie as usual. Dr. Martin frowned, quickly following her into the waiting room. Cassie, being the nosy person that she was, walked to the door so she could listen to what the police were saying.

"Dr. Martin, we're aware that you have a patient here by the name of Cassie Potter? We would like to see her file." One of the police men said. He had a suit on, meaning that he was most likely a detective. Cassie frowned as she watched Dr. Martin talk to the police. Why are detectives here?

"No one, not even the patients, are permitted to look at files. They are confidential." Dr. Martin's reply was very quick and sounded as if he had practiced them. Cassie was confused, beginning to feel scared. The police wanted her file, and Dr. Martin was obviously hiding something.

"Dr. Martin, this is a matter of police business. We need to see that file." This time, a lady answered. She too was wearing a pantsuit, making her a detective.

"Why? What's happened?"

"There's been a murder." The few people who were in the office glanced up then, hearing the word "Murder." Dr. Martin himself was staring at the two detectives, wide eyed.

"What? Do you think Miss Potter has something to do with it?" Dr. Martin asked. Cassie shifted her feet underneath her, feeling the strain of worry setting in on her shoulders.

"Just give us the the file, Dr. Martin." The lady said, putting a hand on her waist. Cassie took a sharp breath as Dr. Martin turned around, heading for the room that she was in. She scrambled backwards, bumping into a lamp as she did. In the dead silence of the room, the shattering of the lamp was loud. Very loud.

"Miss Potter?" Dr. Martin questioned, pushing the door opened. Cassie looked up, wide eyed, towards the detectives. They stared back at her for only a second before the realization that she was the Cassie Potter they seemed to be looking for hit.
