"Tania, you never told me about the wafers. You told me that there are sandwiches with beans but..."

"Kidney!"

"What? No...what kidney? I am talking about waf...Ohh yes, you told me there were sandwiches & kidney beans but I was..."

"What has gotten inside you D? You were never this complaining before. Today, I am observing you from the morning itself, looks like you have suddenly developed an alter ego."

"Oh, that's the problem, how can a meek Dillon become a maverick Dillon? Is that the problem Tania? Is voicing my opinions now troublesome for you guys? Why can't I be myself?"

"You are not this D. You are a perfect husband and a great father. Don't push yourself to be what you are not and that's a maverick. You are a gentle, kind & a warm person. I don't know what ticked you off but please, you are one of the more gentler souls I have seen and that's the reason I fell in love with you."

While Dillon was taken aback with heaps of praises thrown at his previous personality, his father-in-law was quick to intervene.

"But you were neither a good son-in-law then, nor are you now. I should have got my daughter married to someone rich, one who could afford a blender whenever he wants!!"

Tania gave a scary look to her father and took his plate which had a bit of mustard sauce on it to the kitchen sink.

Meanwhile, like always, Dillon wasn't perturbed a cent by his father-in-law's tirade and was busy heeding to the conflict that was running through his mind.

So, they were happy with me earlier because I was gentle. Or because I never said anything that went against their wishes. Let me think of the instances where I had to kill my wishes in order to make someone else in my family happy. I can start with, yes, I always have to tend to my bed. My breakfast must be healthy and that's what my wife demands. But she makes sure that she prepares that healthy breakfast for me. She could quickly prepare something junk like a burger or something & serve it to me. But she goes through the pains everyday in order to deliver a healthy breakfast. Although, I don't like that healthy breakfast but I think her contribution to the same is much more. She is the one who constantly encourages Zoe to study well. Yes, I want to give up on my job of being a silly receptionist but she forces me to do that. She believes that I will leave whatever I will start.

Now that's not a good place to be breathing in. I started designing clothes for an online portal but had to stop as not enough money was being generated. Then I started a local newspaper delivery agency but had to shut it down because not many people were using my agency. There are thousands of things that I have started but none of them have worked. But that doesn't give her the right to curb my entrepreneurial instincts.

Nah...I will continue to be who I am.

With all these thoughts, Dillon dozed off and woke up because of a call. That call was from his office. Dillon hesitatingly took the call. The call ended quickly and was just a message for Dillon that he had been fired and that his full & final will soon be sent to him by a cheque. Dillon's face turned warm after taking this call and he tried to pinch himself, just in case he was dreaming but like more often than not, good news is what the dreamy stuff is generally made of.

How will I pay for the EMIs?More importantly, what will I tell Tania? She is really going to explode. My doofus father-in-law is going to roast me properly. Why did I even entertain this idea of me being a maverick. From now on if I need to mend things, I will have to be more gentler and more accommodating. I will tell Tania that my company was shut down due to lack of operations. This way probably she will be more sympathetic towards me. I will make her see that I am struggling with these thoughts and that I am talking to Zoe about all this. Yes, she won't be able to see me like that.

"Zoe, Zoe, come here baby!"

"Yes daddy!"

"Daddy needs to talk to you princess. There is something that I want to tell you."

"Is it good or bad?"

"It is bad but just temporarily. It is a part of life princess."

"I know what it is."

"Aww...you know nothing princess."

"I know that you like some other lady from chatting. I read it on your diary!"
