-------------------My Dearest Harry,
May I call you that?
Maybe you should let me know at the date that I have planned for us later on. Meet me near the Black Lake around ten tonight. Come as you are.
Until then, I hope you're doing well, and I can't wait to see you.
Yours,
D
That was the note tied to the leg of the owl that woke Harry the next morning.
The bird had somehow managed to sneak into his dormitory - unbeknownst to the rest of the room's occupants, apparently - and was stood on his chest in a devilishly uncomfortable modus operandi. Harry read the note and scoffed lightly, annoyed with Malfoy's audacity. How dare he just send an owl - which could be easily intercepted, mind you - to Harry's room in the wee hours of morning? Had he no decency? Had he no basic common sense?
Harry's world was beginning to get a lot more complicated than it should have been, that was for sure.
He reread the note two and three times before shooing the owl out of the room and watching it clammer like a drunken fool through the small window that it had somehow managed to get through in the first place. There were small footprints pressed into the cover of Harry's duvet, and he used his hand to flatten them out.
He wouldn't dare respond, he decided, closing the note and setting it on the nightstand by his head. It was nowhere near time to wake up, and Malfoy definitely deserved it.
He fell asleep again, this time spelling the window locked beforehand, should Malfoy decide to interrupt his sleep again.

A few hours later brought actual sunlight, something which hadn't been there when the owl had first arrived. It beat through his eyelids gently, waking him up in a much more comfortable way than the feeling of owl-talons on his chest had.
Harry yawned before he opened his eyes, not wanting to wake from the peaceful state of haziness that he was experiencing. He let out a mental sigh and did it, however, because he knew that he couldn't sleep forever.
It took a moment for his vision to focus, and even longer for him to realize that something was wrong. At first he thought that it was only because he hadn't put his glasses on yet, but then he realized that it was something else. The little note that he had received from Malfoy was missing.
He sat up immediately, searching the ground for it. His eyes tumbled over objects that had been messily misplaced; a broken quill, a few knuts that had fallen from his pocket when he was emptying them the night before, a shirt with a red stain on it from who-knows-when. Nowhere was the note.
He would have been lying if he didn't think that he had imagined it. What if it had all been a dream, something that his mind had made up to keep him from getting bored. There was no way that he and Malfoy were actually - well, not actually - dating.
He let out a small sound of relief and took an easy breath.
It wasn't until he turned to see Lavender sitting up in bed with a little note in her hand that his heart came crashing down again from its high. Of course she had read it. At first, Harry didn't mind that Lavender had taken the note; he practically shared everything with her.
